Topic: Is there a age restriction on e621.net?

Posted under General

I was going on the site as normal but then i realized at the front page there is no page saying that if you are not 18 you should not enter this website like hentai-foundry.com . Why doesnt E621 have this?

Updated by SirAntagonist

Whatever you do, don't ask people how old they are.

Updated by anonymous

Yeah, actually, that is explained in the rules.

If you are not at least 18 years of age, do not use an account to access the site.

Because people read those when they sign up for an account.

So, Okami...how old are you?

Old enough to view this site ;)

I encourage people asking, it helps weed out the underage kids and keeps the site safe from legal actions

If a user doesn't say they're under 18, no action can be taken against the site. That being said, if they are dumb enough to say they are underage, what other dumb things are they going to do here?

They confirmed being 18 on sign up. It is the user's fault after that

What good is a disclaimer that says
"Hey, if you're not 18 don't look at this!"
if you can still click 'ok' and continue looking?
Even Xtube is like that, "by clicking yes, you
agree that you're 18 or older" but there's no
lock on content. I guess maybe they do that
as a "save our ass if some kid is using our
website" base covering, but other than that
I don't see how it's an effective deterrent.
Even if you made everything blocked except
to people who made accounts, you'd still
have people falsifying their info. The
only real way to ensure that no minors
are viewing the site is to make them
register with credit cards, and that's
just over-complicating things.

Arizona law Prohibits knowingly distributing pornography to minors. :/ All you guys are doing by asking for that information is making more work for us to do.

And I really don't need anyone trying to undermine me thank you.

At one point it was in the disclaimer on the front page. Wonder where it went.

As I stated the last time this was brought up, it's senseless to say that we're banning users because of legality issues when banning user accounts DOES NOT PREVENT THEM from accessing the website.

e621 bans underage users because it's a website intended for adults. So the rule is that you need to be an adult, that's all. It has nothing to do with anyone's porn laws.

Arizona law Prohibits knowingly distributing pornography to minors. It's the only reason I care about, I mean if you want to bring moral grounds into it, that's on you. :/

If cartoon pony porn suddenly became illegal to host, you damn well be sure we wouldn't host it here, either that or move the server location.

dis·trib·ute
[dih-strib-yoot] Show IPA
verb (used with object), dis·trib·ut·ed, dis·trib·ut·ing.
1. to divide and give out in shares; deal out; allot.
2. to disperse through a space or over an area; spread; scatter.
3. to promote, sell, and ship or deliver (an item or line of merchandise) to individual customers, especially in a specified region or area.
4. to pass out or deliver (mail, newspapers, etc.) to intended recipients.
5. to divide into distinct phases: The process was distributed into three stages.
-----
Are we promoting porn? No
Are we selling porn for free or zenny? No
We have ads for porn stuff? Yes. That distributing? The BD one on a technicality; You can choose to go click to ads, no one is forcing you.

http://computer.howstuffworks.com/banner-ad3.htm
Advertisers generally hope a banner ad will do one of two things. Ideally, a visitor to the publisher site, the Web site that posts the banner ad, will click on the banner ad and go to the advertiser's Web site. In this case the banner ad has brought the advertiser a visitor they would not have had otherwise. The banner ad is a real success if the visitor not only comes to the site but also buys something. Failing a click-through, advertisers hope that a publisher site visitor will see the banner ad and will somehow register it in their heads. This could mean the visitor consciously notes the content of a banner ad and decides to visit the advertiser's site at some time in the future, or it might mean that the visitor only peripherally picks up on the ad but is made aware of the advertiser's product or service.

I'm kidding, I'm actually 23.

24 in October. I want presents

Is there an actual reason why you won't put the age restriction filter? Practically every other furry site has one but not e621.

I don't want to sound like an ass but it just seems like you guys don't want to do it because its too much work.

yah in case anyone is wondering I'm actually 22, and lets stop asking questions about peoples age, it just complicates things! :P

Which we're not solving by banning user accounts, because that doesn't restrict their access in any way to the actual content on the site. That's all I'm saying.

One of the draws of e621 is that you don't have to register a user account in order to access the site's content. Additionally, the TOS is linked on the homepage: http://e621.net/static/terms_of_service and clearly says that you can't access the site without parental supervision if you are a minor. I won't claim to be an expert on the subject, but to the best of my knowledge that's all e621.net needs. Anything beyond that is just making users jump through hoops for no benefit, especially for the site itself.

but at that point they magically go back to the land of anonymity. Where you don't have any age or gender and we don't know if they are viewing anymore or not.

oh so a minor have to have aprental supervision? LOL so lets say im a minor i could just say "oh my father lets me upload stuff on to here he supervises me when i do it" How would you know if a parent supervises them?

I actually wonder what happens when on sites that ask if you are 18 or older, if you click the "no I am not"...like what happens...I was never stupid enough to try it when I was younger...

Redirects to Google or Yahoo! search. (You don't have to click them. Just look at the statusbar or 'Right Click > Copy link address' paste anywhere)

I find it funny a user got baned for being under age, made a new account and said thats why they couldnt ban him again because he has permission....lol People would say thats a flaw but anyone can access the site without an account, now account making I guess you can say thats 18+

Updated by anonymous

Isn't the whole purpose of the "If you're not 18 or older, do not click this" thing not to get rid of people 17 or younger, but to dismiss legal fault?
"We warned them, what else can we do?"

It's sort of like when doctors still issue prescriptions to people faking it - it's just to protect themselves from lawsuit. Or is that the same thing?
I dunno.

Parental permission? So if a mom buys her kid a bottle of vodka does that mean its okay for them to drink it?

I don't think you should have to agree to being 18+ every time you visit e621. But if you're logged out or don't have an account then I certainly do think we should have one. The terms of service should be posted right in front of everything, not just when you sign up. Even allowing anyone to view this site should be considered a service.

Drinking age is 13 in some places on this rock.

Updated by anonymous

Actually it is legal for a parent to buy their child an alcoholic beverage.
They have to drink it in the presence of the parent though.
And most restaurants won't sell it, even though it's technically legal.
