and yes... pinkie pie is fucking bonkers ._.

Check out Episode 25, "Party of one". Pinkie pies always been "insane" but usually the good kind of insane, in that one all her friends "Abandon" her and dont want to go to a party shes throwing {I wont say more on that, spoilers] anyways. When she figures out that they were all lying to her she "Snaps" and goes completely off her rocker, and not in the good way like usual.

Pre-dating the "Party of One" episode, the a fan fiction writer came up with a short story entitled "Cupcakes."

I won't tell you what it's about, or where to find it. I'll leave that up to you.

-SPOILER TIME-

It's a fanfic about Pinkie Pie murdering a bunch of ponies and baking their dead bodies into cupcakes then feeding them to other ponies.

That was about the start of her fanon personality as a sociopathic murderer.

By a strange coincidence, one of the recent episodes of the TV series revolves around Pinkie Pie having a mental breakdown after coming to the (false) conclusion that her friends didn't like her anymore and wouldn't come to her parties.

While Pinkie Pie didn't quite go on a killing spree, she did display symptoms of serious mental instability. She threw a party for a new set of friends, who were nothing more than set of inanimate objects, even going as far as to invent independent personalities for each of them and have conversations with them.

Naturally, this aspect of her canon personality fed the aformentioned fanon one. So now we find ourselves amidst a storm of "crazy ass Pinkie Pie" fanart.

On a side note, the straight hair you often see her drawn with nowadays is a visual expression of her mental state. Normally Pinkie Pie has a very energetic and positive personality, so her hair takes its usual bouncy curls. But when she becomes depressed it comically deflates into the straight rows pictured (like in "Part of One").

I'm man enough to admit my attraction to FiM is analogous to that.

I have cousin the same age as me who still watches Super Sentai and I think he's a weirdo.

He knows I watch MLP and he thinks I'm weirdo, too.

I rather like Pinky with straight hair.

(Also, she's quieter when her hair is straight. That's a plus)
