Posted under Off Topic

Nightwish?

person;no.

me; Iron Maiden?

Person;Elvis.

Once asking a person who wore a AC/DC Shirt.

Me: So you heard Highway to Hell?

Poser: What?

Me:It's a song by AC/DC

Poser:I thought AC/DC was a brand of shirts.

I propose an alternative and equally truthful thread titled; 'Stupid stuff metalheads say'

The singers scream a lot in metal. But that's just my take on the genre and why I don't really find it appealing.

True. I do like some of the softer country music, well technically it's "country pop" or something. I'm not a big fan of the "twangy" stuff however.

It depends what you call "screaming".

A lot of traditional heavy metal and power metal vocalists use falsetto voice and belting, which are the same technics as in opera singing.

Most people only associate metal singing with unnatural voices like you can hear in death/black/thrash/industrial metal.

Here is an example fitting on a furry site :

The "twangy" stuff you're referring to is probably bluegrass.

I love that stuff. Although I do like most other varieties of country music. I like metal, too. But I don't think I'd call myself a metalhead.

Come to think of it, you'd be hard pressed to find a genre of music I don't like.

"it's just noise"

Curse me for being too analytical! I was taking that serious until I stopped and thought for a second.

As much as I'd love to say "I'd say they're on the same level" I just can't bring myself to lie like that. A retarded badger with loose vocal chords could still do rap.

One of my biggest gripes about metal music is that too many songs are just about how cool metal and/or the band is. Manowar is especially guilty of this.

I think a lot of genres are guilty of that.

Manowar are among the only guilty of that, but they are also known for their elitist opinions about "true" metal, which kinda set them off the bands community.

I don't recall of any song talking about metal from Iron Maiden, for example.
Save from some occasional metal "hymns", it's really scarce, or not to be taken seriously.
Just check the guys' faces in this manowar cover :

It comes to be a nice parody disguised as a homage.

When the power chords come crashing down
Go tearing through my senses
It's for the strong, not for the weak
In light and dark dimensions

It stimulates, regenerates
It's therapeutic healing
It lifts our feet up off the ground
and blasts us through the ceiling

Between the eyes
I hear it screaming
And it electrifies
Your inner feelings

Hot shock waves charge the air
All heads are banging
Fists pumping everywhere
Guitars are cranking

Heavy Metal. Heavy Metal
What do you want
Heavy Metal. Heavy Metal
What do you want

-_-

Most rap is just spoken word put to a beat. While a lot of rappers are very talented (it takes a quick mind to freestyle well), that doesn't mean they are more skilled than a Metal or Rock artist. For example the rap song "Wait till you see my dick" is just pure retardation, much like many other Rap "songs". And I do use the term song loosely, one must sing for it to be a song.

Something else I once heard:
"Who's Pantera?"

Psalm 69. :D

I know who Pantera is, but I'm not going to lie.

I learned about them from Spongebob.

Rammstein is guilty of the occasional "song about the band" too. I love their music, though.

Kinda curious: as a monolingual american, which of their songs are about themselves? I mean, I know they have a self-titled song, but I know that one is about the airshow disaster they took their name from. But I've not looked up all of their lyrics and so forth :)

to actually be on topic... and this is one I hear for people who are fond of all musical genres... "I love this band" only to discover they know approximately 3 songs that the artist has done, from the, say, 10 albums they released.

Sorry, because one time i asked if a person liked metal and they said they like bands like slipknot. Because i know many guitar forums don't like Nu-metal that much. sorry again.

"I listen to all kinds of music"

What's wrong with that? I personally try to sample a variety of music, regardless of whether people think it's "poser" or "legit". On the topic of Slipknot, I don't know if they're a legit metal band or not, but I enjoy a fair number of their songs (which is all that really matters to me).

Self-affirmation based on musical preference. This is bad and you should feel bad.

One time in Maryland.

Person:this is bad.

Me:Yeah,i wonder if i should request a song from the radio station.

Person:that is if you know the name of a song.

Me:????
