Topic: Gallery of rejected images

Posted under General

About images that don't get approved:
Are they still in e621's database somewhere, even just as thumbnails?

It'd be great if we could look at them.
1) So we get an idea what kind images we shouldn't post.
2) Because it'd be fun to browse through the "rejects".

well, it's a sound idea in theory... except part of the reason images are deleted is so that they can't be seen. Imagine how irate an artist would get if his "deleted" art was still visible? c_c

besides.. for the most part, 95% of deleted images are reposts. The rest are thing that would generally make you go "why would you even POST that??" ... for example, clip art edited poorly together to make it look like garfield's jerking off yoshi. Or.. photographs of a bra. Just a bra, no boobs. Or artwork that looks like it was colored with the bucket tool. or photographs of drawings. or irelevant stuff like, say, photos of cars, unfunny motivational posters, most memes... REALLY crappy art... etc.

This would be a huge issue with posts rejected because they're from SexyFur. If they were still visible...bad things, my friend, bad things.

If it's a legal issue/artist request, having it be unshowable = no brainer. Things that aren't appropriate and get deleted for such being visible but marked as a "DO NOT POST THIS SHIT" might be useful. Reposts should be unshowable as well, ofc.

You can take your Commander Star Fox and shove it where the sun don't shine, thank you.

That said, firstly you're not a mod (unless you are in disguise, Aurali? Similar names and all). Secondly, it would be a useful reference for all non-repost, non-DNP work to be visible ina format of "don't post this" for the simple reason of showing people posting what not to post. Just because you disagree doesn't mean shit.

As useful as it might sound, I agree with the points made by RedOctober and SnowWolf.

Even thumbnails would create legal risk for the site. "Fair Use" is not strongly defined in law and so it's more or less subject to the whims of whatever judge presides over the copyright lawsuit, and it wouldn't take too many lawsuits to make this site financially infeasible, even for our generous host and supreme admin Varka.

Even if nobody (Sexyfur, Bernal in particular) sued on copyright violations, even thumbnails would create needless anti-e621 drama among artists who want their work taken down. I think this site suffered enough of that under the previous administration, which didn't try nearly as hard to respect and reach out to artists. I wouldn't be surprised if the site still carries a bad rep among artists. It's unfortunate, but it's the reality of our drama-heavy sub-culture.

I think these two points outweigh the value of a deleted posts gallery even for educational purposes, and especially outweigh the value of such a gallery for entertainment.

If you want to know what not to post, you read e621:rules.
