Topic: Club Stripes DNP?

Exactly what it says on the tin.
It seems like it'd be, seeing as it's usually marked "Do not distribute," generally meaning...commercial work.

But our DNP list doesn't feature it, so I'm confused.

I believe the rule of thumb around here is that if it's over two years old, then it's fair game. Unfortunately, a lot of their art isn't dated, so I guess it's somewhat of a grey area.

I tend to agree, that since the pics say "Do not distribute," that we shouldn't distribute it. They don't come labelled "Do not distribute except maybe two years from now, then it's ok." I never flag 'em because they're not on DNP and I don't want to get hit with an FFD-abuse warning and a comment about how the artist can request take-down.

Rule of thumb is two years before posting, aye. With Club Stripes it is a bit of a grey area but not some other sites. Personally I think we should revise that rule, but... *shrugs*

I'm speaking entierly on my own here--so this may not be accurate, this is no way represents the administration's opinion, etc.

I believe the 2 years rule is a courtousy. In two years, a website is likely to have already made all of the money it's going to off of a particular image. They make money and live off of people buying their art, after all. it's not *nice* to repost it.. even if you CAN get it over on website X. We're better then that.

But if they've already made all of the money they'll make off of the content then distributing some of these older works is free advertisement. It's not like we're cataloging their entire works or posting whole comics. We're just handing out a small taste of what subscribers can get.

Club Stripes tends to be pretty pleasant about their work. Push comes to shove, just ask them if they mind having their older art posted here. After all, we're supposed to ask for permission before posting most of this stuff anyways, right?

I'm pretty sure they've got to be aware of it by now. If they wanted it down they'd have asked for it. They can't say "yeah it's ok" because then some will take it as license to go nuts and they'd have to clamp down hard. This way (not commenting on it) they can say "Pull it down." any time they want. And they can just leave it up without having to commit to anything until when/if they decide they want any or all of their content currently on the site pulled.
