Topic: A great way to prevent morons from abusing the Flag system!

Posted under General

I've seen this on most sites nowadays...

We should have an organized way to flag submissions, such as using drop down menus.

What would happen is that you would click the link, then you would select a reason (they all are restricted to the ones that are against ToS), then you click a checkbox that says "I read the Rules and I'm flagging this on good will" or something, then you click Report.

That way it's easier than typing out shit, plus people won't abuse the flag system as much (or hopefully deter from it)

This obviously is a flexible idea, maybe a bit of suggesting to maybe fix any mistakes in my proposition?

Checking a little box that says 'I read the rules' isn't going to stop anyone from being dumb. It's also easier to type what you need to type and hit enter.

Right now, as it stands, FFD abuse isn't a big deal. It's very easy to deal with once it comes up, so it's nothing to worry about.

I think the part that would help prevent abuse is the drop-down menu containing options like "screencap/macro, larger res at post _____, duplicate of post ______, On DNP list." That way they can't say "MLP sucks" or "This is stupid, I hate it."

That said, it probably wouldn't prevent it a WHOLE lot, they'd just click one of the options. Probably the "On DNP list" option.

We'd still need an "Other" option.
Just in case.

I considered that, but then I realized if we put an Other, then we accomplished nothing....

On the other hand, finding stupid flags would be easier.

And if you don't put an Other, you make it harder to flag with a legitimate but unforeseen reason. And since FFD abuse is a minimal problem at the moment (according to skeeter), this is breaking something to fix a problem that doesn't need fixing.

I'd like to see this WITH the Other option, so that there are actual listings of "this is the sort of thing we're looking for for FFD issues" available right there when you click it.

Stupid flags are once in a blue moon, and are harmless to the system. The way the current system is is much more lenient then a strict system, and with working with yiffstar.. less is more.

plus, letting peopel flag stupidly means we can spot the idiots :3

Thus why I say add the 'other' option. Just having a preset listing of "these are the things we generally want you to flag" would help. Especially when something is a multiple choice issue. (Make them checkboxes?)

There are users that flag multiple things per day. Having to check boxes would more than likely discourage them from doing so.
Also, if multiple images need to be deleted, I could quickly flag all of them for deletion, pull them up in the mod queue, and delete them from there. Having to check boxes would only make things harder.

The system we have now is fine. The only improvement I can think of is it providing a link to the Flag for Deletion Wiki page. That way, if one is unsure what it is, they can click for help.

I was thinking about the checkboxes being under the "other" heading more than the usual issues; my bad for not clarifying.
