Topic: The forums here...

Posted under General

I feel like there isn't much attention paid to these forums. A few people post here every day, and there's only one forum. We don't need 20 subforums, but different ones like "general chat", "help", "artists", and stuff like that would be nice to see, and would help the community a bit by making the place feel more open to chat instead of coming for a wank and leaving.

Well, the forums have gotten a lot more use as of late. Maybe it is time to open them up a bit more.

The important thing to remember is that we're an art repository first and foremost with a community that happens to have grown around it. As opposed to FA and Inkbunny which try to be hybrid social networking sites and art galleries. We can't lose the focus on what sets the site apart, which is the ability to come look at art/"for a wank" and leave. e621, we cut out the bullshit that separates you from the art.
If you want to socialize more, there's always the irc.

I think the most useful subforum, and I think I've said this in an update thread, would be one where we can keep all the discussions on tags.

Why did I think that would be a website regarding fucking machines

SimpleMachines is just a website with forum templates that can be downloaded for free.

Later developers can fit it to this site by changing its theme to blue and yellow.

I don't like those forum packages because they are way more complex than they need to be. Look at most forums on the internet. There's about 4000 links on every page, a header and footer about 300px tall each, each forum post itself has about 500 links and 16 buttons and 12 images littering it, and don't get me started on signatures. We prefer to code our own forums exactly how we need them, and keep it clean and simple.

Yes to subforums. It increases productivity and we need to post big returns this quarter.
