Oh fantastic, Resident Evil: Gears of Fail edition.

I wish this were Facebook so I could like this.

I thought it looked interesting. I definitely want to see how it turns out. I'm hoping to see more of Resident Evil 4's influence in the game (its level and enemy design, mainly).

I don't mind the Resident Evil games becoming more action-oriented; as a horror series runs on it becomes impossible to make things scary. The first Dead Space scared the shit out of me and I loved it. Dead Space 2 wasn't frightening at all because of how acclimated I was to the first game. It was still a great game and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It just wasn't scary. It happens to horror movie franchises as well. If you want to scare people again then you just make a new series so you can throw new surprises in.

Are they up to number six already? I quit playing them back at two.

Updated by anonymous

I started playing at 4, because the second person view is better than third person.

So it's a retooled RE4 without all of RE5's fail, or a teambased shooter about people I've never heard of (RE:ORC).

Huh. Wonder how the sprint button will affect the game.

Looks awesome. Can't wait.

I was waiting for you to notice this thread. I just spazzed when I found out some of my favorite characters are returning as playable in this installment in the franchise. Admittedly, Leon shows up in Operation Raccoon City, but his best appearance is Resident Evil 6. I'm looking forward to seeing gameplay uploaded on YouTube.

I honestly don't care how much of a departure contemporary releases are from the original RE formula. Because I hear people bitching about that all the time. The gameplay is a blast and some of the characters (like Leon) are genuinely interesting. Hell I'm even glad Ashley's coming back. Re4 had a compelling story and I'm interested to see how it pans out.

The thing that made Resident Evil 4 good was that it broke off form the established story and did its own thing, so the game was new and interesting. It worries me that RE6 is just wedging itself in between existing games, but seeing it connect the main plot to RE4 might give it an interesting angle. We'll see.

If by "Compelling" You mean, bland, uninteresting, and predictable sure. It was "Fun" granted, as a spinoff title. AS a direct continuation of the storyline? Not a chance in HELL. RE "4" Should have been called "RE:Uroborous" or something, instead of trying, and completely failing ot live in the spirit of its predecessors. And it turned Leon into a self aggrandizing pretty-boy prick. RE2 LEON IS STILL BEST LEON. Ashley does not deserve to come back, nor is she wanted.

RE doesn't "Need" a 6, RE should have STOPED after 3. I Have no love of this game, they killed off wesker after completely butchering his character, the new villains going to be just as shitty, the plot will be just as predictable. Oh, and prepare to survive via QUICKTIME Instead of thinking. RE1-3 weren't perfect by any means in terms of gameplay, VA, graphics, or storytelling. But god damnit they were RE in its truest form. Survival Horror.

for those of you who TL:DR
RE6 is a cash out, and is trash. As is 5, an 4 should have been a spinoff.

I like the website that goes with the game. it makes me lol, and I've been posting it in random places to see how many people I can freak out with it. it's amazing how many people don't notice the "rating pending" up in the corner.

I agree wholeheartedly. I just hope Ashley isn't shrieking in your ear every 2 seconds. Goddamn, that was annoying. >.< I just thought it was awesome how the President became a zombie. Totally cool.

Eh, I started the series at RE4 and enjoyed it (tried a little bit of 1 and 2, didn't like them). The story certainly isn't anything to write home about, but it's coherent and goes well with the gameplay. I agree RE5 was disappointing; I think it got too caught up in trying new things while being tied to the old game and story design. I want to reserve judgement for RE6.

Like I said, if they can work a little RE4 back into the series then six might turn out well. I do question them maintaining the Resident Evil title; I think the games would benefit from the increased creative freedom if they broke ties with RE franchise and moved the RE4-5 design philosophy into a new series.

It seems like they're just riding out the established audience and marketing boost from the RE franchise. Mo' money, I guess.

Side note: Anyone play the Lost Planet games? I bought LP2 on Steam recently and got hooked on it. I really wish Capcom put more into developing that series.

No person in the history of earth has been completely and entirely unbiased. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar. We ALL have strong opinions on something, and resident evil is one of mine.

I never liked RE until 4 because The third person gameplay prohibited actually aiming where on an enemy you wanted to shoot. With the over-the-shoulder prespective, I can actually aim for headshots.

In my opinion ORC will be far more entertaining than RE6. I say that mostly because the main series has lacked the convenience of typewriter ink tapes and cliche' booby traps. (That meet my standards [ie: at least six slow moving spiked ceilings/walls/pits in one mansion-like perimeter]) Also, I got sick of QTE's after I beat Shenmue 1&2, we do not need those as a community any more.

I'll have to agree with the magic pony princess about how they bastardized Wesker's character. But, I will use my mental powers to make a prediction that Wesker is still alive somehow be it that he regenerated, cloned himself, or he beat his QTE before he was hit by RPG while inside a volcano. Come back in 10 months and then mock or praise me depending if I can Nostradamus this shit.

He's a comic book villain, cliche and just..ugh. over RE2/3 he's more of the chessmaster, he has none of that sauve brilliance that made him..him.

I can agree with this. IT's actually kind of ironic that chris actually calls him a "comicbook villian" during the final fight.

Yeah, he does seem a little like a generic mastermind, but you can't say no to his Midnight outfight.

Exactly, thank you magic talking horse person and sure wesker could stop a rocket with his fist in RE5 but he was not the Wesker we knew and loved.

His appearance was awesome, yes. But Appearance is not why we loved wesker. Keep in mind most of us that loved him loved him from RE1, in which he was dressed like a STARS member. We loved him because he was a careful, ploting, devious mastermind. He rarely actually got his hands dirty, instead sending pawns to do his dirty work, and out smarting the heros at every turn. In RE5 he's more..HURGURG I AM EVIL SCIENTIST WHO WANTS TO EVOLVE THE WORLD INTO PERFECT HERPADERPA NEVERMIND THAT I WAS KILLED AND RESURRECTED WITH A SPECIAL VARIANT OF THE PROGINATOR VIRUS IN RE.

I do not know why they wouldn't have Barry as one of the MCs in RE6, forever no Jill sandvich.

I know he was a kind of a shadowy bastard in the early games, which is why he came to be my favorite RE character, but his style in RE5 just fits who he truly is: a devious asshole with a god complex. Although I never played most of the early games, I followed them all through the RE wiki, and youtube.

The devious asshole bit is true, the god Complex? not remotely.

He said that he wanted to use Uroboros to redo the world and rule as a god. That's not a god complex?

Yeah, it is in RE5. Which sucked ass. In ALL The other RE's, he had NO intention of "Ruling the world" or "Evolving civilization"

Oh yeah, I probably should've made it clear I was referencing RE5.

Resident Evil hasn't been a horror series for a long time, it's just an action game with zombies and zombie-like creatures.

I don't really care what they do with it at this point. I'll just be over here, replaying RE2.

Well, they did say the Call of Duty crowd was their target audience. Guess they succeeded at that.

Yep, I hated having to get lucky for a critical headshot in third person. That's why I love over-the-shoulder and first person shooters. Umbrella Chronicles for the Wii was fun though, but nothing like House of The Dead.

I'm not that into the FPS RE, as it's like a bad version of House of The Dead, but the over-the-shoulder variant like RE4 and RE5 actually allows for more skill to be used than luck.

Assuming your goal is to "Kill everything in a room and go."
Particularly in a game where the most followed paths are backtracking, and some areas allow you to NEVER come back to them again after getting the mcguffin of the hour (Light switch, cables, key, etc)

Nope, i'm always looking for shit like ammo, loot, keys and such. Don't want to miss anything that's irretrievable later on.
