Topic: god, at this rate, I'll be turned against furries

If you're talking about us, we would act nicer if you were actually nice yourself.
Insinuating that the mods have a "fucked-up imbalance of pride and egotism that [they] seem to possess to a level far beyond that of "crazy"" is wrong and doesn't endear you to us at all.

e621's mods are pretty great, especially if you compare them to the mods on some other popular furry sites.

I only state what I see. Besides, I find errors with your statement:

1. I said "seem to". I did not say "do".

2. Who are you to judge? You are a mod; not God.

So only God can judge people's character?

In that case, please explain why you felt justified in making such judgments about the staff here.

In the context of knowing who a person is, yes.

Ultimately, we can only guess a person's disposition.

Yes. A guess. I said "seem to," which is the one important piece of the puzzle you guys --> SEEM TO <-- (get it, now?) keep missing.

Meaningless quibbling and starting two threads just to whine some more? Not helping your case, man. ;)

Being a furry doesn't automatically make someone approachable/kind/exciting/funny/etc. It's just an interest, and being an interest, there is an individual person behind it.

Liking the same stuff as the next person doesn't mean we are going to warm up all cozy and nice together, because things like attitude and personality play a larger role in forming relationships/friendships.

We're people, specifically random people from the internet. We're not all from one religion, one culture, or even one part of the world. Hell, furry is a very broad term that can incorporate hundreds of fetishes, as well as being completely non-sexual. What you're saying is akin to complain that people with green eyes are rude.

There I already thought that somebody would present us a fleshed out, near-philosophical, and certainly psychological insight into their depraved lives and idetity crises.

I am disappoint.

No, but really, people could generally be nicer, not particularly here, I find the people here quite nice actually, but this world needs more Rabbu ando piisu.

Don't insult people, especially the staff, and you will be treated nicer. Simple as that.

While I agree that the site is a great place for furries to interact with the furry community and experience the furry lifestyle, I find that there exists a lack of kindness and respect in the actual community itself. Acknowledging that the world isn't a perfect thing, I would believe that it wouldn't be hard for users just to be nicer to each other. So what if someone had a different opinion of yours, it is no such excuse to hammer other users with insults or negative attitude. It takes a good user to recognize tolerance and to simply respect each others opinions. In fact, this can be said for any part of life. People who say, "Oh, well the world is a sucky place, get used to it." are only refuting the fact that things can change.

As for the staff of the site. I believe that you are all making a great contribution to your users and the furry community and that you should be recognized for your outstanding efforts to make this site what it is today. However, this does not make the staff more privileged over others, socially speaking. Certaintly there are some powers that you have over others that come with the control of the site. I am just saying that you can't abuse this when communicating with others. We should all be treated in the same and equal manner. (No offense to any of the staff of the site. As I said, you are all great guys. I am just expressing my opinion on the topic.)

In other words, be happy and act nicely! :)

What to say, what to say? "This?" or some tired variation thereof? "I WANT YOUR BABIES" or something else creepy? Or the exaggeratedly white "I wholeheartedly agree with your position on the matter, dear sir or madam!"

Eh, just pretend I did them all. <3

One of the main reasons I frequent e621 is its atmosphere.

It's wonderfully devoid of the superficial, escapist affection endemic to many furry communities.

We're jaded here. We know people hate furries. We know furries hate other furries. We know we hate each other. And we're okay with that.

Unfortunately, this is precisely what so many artists and others HATE about e621. :P "I want my art removed because people are making rude comments on it." Sometimes it seems like artists would rather not know that there are people out there that DON'T like their artwork, or would at least rather not know what those people have to say about their artwork.

I wouldn't have it any other way though. I love this aspect of e621.

I know I do my best to respect everyone and get along, even being a lowly pissant on the totem pole here. I try to be friendly and though I too have my moments of short fused reactions I usually refrain from being a bitch and what have you as to avoid being hated on for negativity.

As for furries being sweet or asses... I look at it as a balance really. I mean, if there was no bad... Would the good really look and be so grand? I think its the crappy things and people that really help the good things and people shine and stand out, so in a sense both hold a place together.

Furries, like any other "sub-culture," represent a slice of the world's population. And guess what? The world is populated by (SURPRISE!) people. Let me put it in a simple logical form:

Some people are assholes.
Furries are people.
Therefore, some furries are assholes.

Being part of a particular group doesn't inherently mean you're nice. You can replace "furries" in that argument with "Christians," "atheists," "old people," "young people," etc. Any group of people, by definition, contains people, and so will have a chance of containing assholes.

Moral of the story: get over it. Ignore the assholes and move on.

This seems to be the case with most new/newish artists out there, and some older ones who aren't accustomed to acknowledging mixed feedback as yet.

Once taken with a grain of salt, unfiltered feedback such as those in the comments section is invaluable to anyone looking for an authentic opinion of their work (which isn't something you directly get much of these days)

The role-playing I could do without,however. :x

Indeed.
Additionally, I haven't seen any picture in here so far where the criticism got out of hand or moved within unreasonable borders, with the advantage that it's not unreasonably shallow and uncritical, either;

In all retrospect, only a few posts, especially that long, drawn reply that practically mirrored how I felt, seem to be unbiased enough to. actually contribute worthwhile content for reading. My reply to everyone:

"Life is full of bullshit yet, 'being okay with it' or 'accepting that it exists' does not constitute change. I am proactive. I oppose those that abuse (and underuse) authority consistently. I am only your enemy if you make me that way. Furry, or not."

The mods and admins here are pretty nice chaps and lasses. They do enough to keep us in line, but not so much that this becomes a hostile dictatorship. Really, I think they're walking the line quite nicely.

UltravioletMoonRay said:

But 'making you that way' is apparently as easy as not living up to your romanticized interpretation of what furries are. I can't help it if we're just random folks from the internet who happen to share a very broad taste in artwork, nor do I really want to become anything more than that. I like anthropomorphic artwork, and as an added bonus some of my personal fetishes also tend to be drawn by furry artists.

There is a community here, but it's a very loose community that incorporates everyone from all ends of the religious, political, and sexual spectrums. It's not close knit or lovey dovey, but I think the diversity is a plus.

Edit: And, no, I can't add to the discussion. My disposition is "don't like it, gtfo" which, in essence, has already been said.

Updated by anonymous

You know, after reading this discussion, it's possible that this brings up a site feature admin could work on.

It appears a certain percentage of e621's users would love the ability to enjoy the art without having to listen to the crowd.

Maybe admin could create a setting that would allow users to not see comments? They would still exist, of course, but those who don't want to be part of the "community," however they perceive it, wouldn't have to.

Another way of saying the same thing: this would be a blacklist of commenting in general. It's a way for users to "gtfo" without having to lose the art. And it's good for the site and for the admin, since by being on the site, those users would still be seeing the ads that keep the place running.

Agreed. I've never understood the logic that anthropomorphic animals would have only four fingers. Dogs and cats have four toes and a dew claw. By the time you anthropomorpicize (humanize) that, it makes perfect sense to me that the dewclaw would migrate toward the other fingers and become the thumb.

Nope. It's been a "high five digits," not a "high five fingers." Problem solved!
