Topic: Minimun Tag Requirement

Posted under General

We all have seen it and I'm sure a lot of you out there have been bugged by it too. Essentially if this idea goes through, it'd end the whole "Tagme" problem. So it's kinda killing two birds with one stone.

So I wanna put forth the "Minimum Tag Requirement" idea. All that means is that you need to have a certain amount of tags with the picture in order to post it. Say like... 8-10 tags to start and others can add some if they see fit!

I know this isn't a bad idea, and I'm probably not the only one who's thought of it... so why not implement it? It shouldn't be too hard to program into the Upload page... should it?

It's been sugested before and I find that it's a pain for users that want to upload large batches of images and then do the tagging. Although something like an 'upload basket'(which lets upload batches, do tags and only when minimum requirements are met, post the image) might overcome this.

I thought that would be the case. That too is a good idea, especially for people uploading Comics or pictures in a series. Honestly, if people weren't lazy with their tagging, we wouldn't need to ask this in the first place, but alas that isn't the case. I've uploaded a few pictures myself and I do think your idea would help a lot as well, so lets work together to get the mods to put them in!

A lot of images I upload really only fit four or five tags, so I don't know.

Yeah, you really wouldn't want to force a limit, otherwise there will be an increase in bad tagging to reach the quota... Would be nice to loosely enforce including artist tags and source though, or at least something to remind people when they're posting. I've seen quite a few people who were obviously ripping straight from an artist's gallery that neglected to provide source and sometimes artist tags.

By the way, the batch uploader I wrote ( http://tonyfox.ws/e621 ) has the ability to automatically add the artist tag to every post based on the url of the image (so adding an image from FA adds the name of the artist who submitted the image) It helps a bit when you're uploading a lot of stuff from the same artist. Just make sure you check the images after they're uploaded to make sure the artist name matches the format used on e621 (i.e. it might be "artistname" while e621 uses "artist_name").

This was already posted. And we agree on 5 tags minimum. There are some pictures that can be described by 5 tag. Example: The image is black & white and the character is a slime, who is just sitting there, with no back ground.

There is technically already one thing that is not unlike a tag which is required. The Rating.

Maybe it would help to add a few more radio buttons and/or checkboxes for the most common basic tags... and maybe some for common squicks

Gender Radio Buttons: Male, Female, Intersexed, Unknown
Sexuality Radio Buttons: Gay, Straight, Lesbian, Bisexual

Genitalia Check Boxes: Penis, Breasts, Vagina, Anus
Squick Check Boxes: Scat, Watersports, Zoo, Prolapse, etc

That way the most basic/common/"important" tags could be filled out extremely quickly. Though it's possible that things would simply wind up getting tagged incorrectly as opposed to not tagged at all.

In a similar vein to this, I'd suggest radio buttons for unknown_artist or a input box for a known artist. I've seen a lot of things that are either not tagged for artist or that are tagged for artist with a general: tag.

possible but very unlikely. those radio buttons would be a huge help for newbies who don't know how/what to tag at all and for "hardcore" taggers alike. When there's a picture with a massive bunch of tags it often takes me some time to figure out what's still missing.

also, those buttons shouldn't take too much time/work to make either. as to which tags to include, just let the the most common tags decide

I'm not trying to get on your nerves mods and admins, but Marbles' suggestion should really be taken into consideration because it

a) is likely to increase the number of sufficiently tagged posts

b) will speed up the uploading progress for everyone

c) will unify the tags used and avoid tags like "tagging retard holydemonsnapdragon was here"

and I'm just generally obsessed by this idea.

It is worth pointing out that the image from your computer.
What is important to add the tag of the name of the artist who drew this picture.

http://e621.net/tag?order=date may help to discover whether the name of this artist are already in the tag. (do not use capital letters)
This same link can change the attribute of a tag, Genaral (white tag), Character (blue tag), artist (orange tag), Copyright (green tag)

When a tag artist became orange, you can click the question mark on his left to add the URL of his gallery (with edit function)
