Topic: Avatars?

I thought a long time ago someone said there would be no avatars.. ever. I'm not complaining, just a tad confused.

Things change.

Besides which, the avatars are of images that are already on the site, so it shouldn't be too load-intensive. Don't take my word for it though, as I have no idea how this sort of thing works.

Meh... Idunno... I love it and im glad they made it happen! Im sure it was no easy task but I for one am grateful

That will become a problem, as people will start to upload pictures here just for using them as avatar

Provided said uploads conform to the existing guidelines, I fail to see the issue.

Seconded

Yuuus that would be cool! But you got to walk before you run right?

I don't know, moving avatars always annoy me. The ability to hide specific people's avatars would be groovy though.

I disagree.

Updated by anonymous

I have 'friendship_is_magic rating:s' on my blacklist, since I don't want to bother with non-sexual images, but I don't mind seeing sfw pony avatars. Then again, I wouldn't want to see scat avatars, a bit of a predicament.

Although not terribly intuitive for that specific task, this is already possible. Just get the post ID of the avatar that you don't want to see, and then add "id:123456" or whatever it is to your blacklist.

Of course, this will also blacklist the image for you, but I don't think that will end up being too much of a concern.

I do, too. They're a bit of a distraction.

I think it uses already made thumbs, and since they are not animated for GIF-s avatars are not as well.

Nah, they're ok in my opinion. A bit distracting on the picture comments though.

You can always disable the avatars and show the classic user-page if you want?
It can be found in your Settings.

Lol blip out...

Aaah puns! ^_^

Updated by anonymous

If you wanna make enemies, try to change something, eh?
I actually like this, avatars magically tend to familiarise and lighten up the atmosphere, and it's not like it's putting a heavy load on the site or something... ^_^

I just realized that they show up in the picture comments, too.
I'd plead to keep them in the forum exclusively, since the comment sections look a bit chaotic now...

That doesn't do anything for some reason D:

Posting in avatar thread with no avatar.

Really though, should give the place a little atmosphere. I'm foregoing one personally but I like that it's been implemented.

(Edit: I hereby recant my statement of foregoing one.)

Updated by anonymous

I set one, (he says, stating the obvious) but might turn them off - most of them are blacklisted...

Oh noes I'm gonna have to get a fursona.

Updated by anonymous

Having an image to associate with a user always gives more flavor about the user, it seems more personal...

Now, considering that these are thumbnails of images of other people's art, and possibly other people's furrsonas - ain't this just a big open window for furry butthurt?

AKA - Bawww, stop pretending to be me my character!!!

I wonder when people will start whining about someone using the same avatar as them? Someone's using the same faggotar as me!! Boo-hoo-diddly-doo!! *sad face*

Why aren't blacklisted thumbs hidden in forums?

Updated by anonymous

I'd still rather not have the avatars. They've just doubled the average height of a post. This page becomes ~50% longer with them on. Unless maybe there's some way to fix that? Could avatars go to the left of the username block? As much as I don't like them, it's impractical to turn it off because it's a part of people's posts, and now I have to wonder what everyone is talking about when they refer to their avatar.

Updated by anonymous

The problem with avatars is that they are huge. 100 or less is perfect. 120 is okay. 150 or bigger is way too huge.

It can only be justified if people post informative, meaningful, serious, interesting messages more than two lines on average. But it won't happen.

“max-width/height: 100px” maybe?

Updated by anonymous

I think the avatar sizes are okay, but my display has a pretty high resolution.

I agree that an option for smaller avatars would be nice.

Also, I looked at opened my account page this morning and my choice in avatar made me laugh.

Updated by anonymous

Is there gonna be rules on what we can have as avatars? Personally I think It'd be cool if we could filter out questionable/explicit avatars at least in the forums.

Also yeah, blacklist doesn't work for thumbnails.

max width and height is 150 cause that's what the system uses.

Google Chrome but I'm seeing images of Simba taking a dump in a previous post even though I've got several of those tags blacklisted. Avatars like MLP and other stuff I have blacklisted work though.

Edit: I just tried in Firefox and the thumbs still aren't being blacklisted.

tested. it works. firefox. chrome. ie. opera. the code is so simple if it didn't work then something is wrong with your blacklist

Well it's just the thumbnails that people can put in comments. In the search function the blacklist works.

I tried reinstalling java and clearing cache on both firefox and chrome but the issue still remains.

Valence said:

It appears Valence is having the same issue though I don't know the details.

Perhaps could we have the option to hide all thumbnails in the forum so we can safely browse without worrying about explicit images?

I've already seen two (three if I were to count myself) users with avatars that are images I've posted. :3

I'm proud of that for some reason.

I mean, instead of <img width=150 height=150> it can write <img width=100 height=100>. It'll be a waste of traffic, but who cares...

Sadly, it can't be done purely with CSS, because the system puts width and height attributes on img tags. Otherwise, I'd just put that into my user style. And I'm too lazy to bother with JS to fix something like this. :)

No standardized rules for avatars yet, other than not posting tiny images. It is highly suggested you not use characters that you do not own (OC's/fursonas/etc), as that could cause some major drama.

It should work, I need OS, browser information. and send me your blacklist verbatem as well.. PM me if you feel uncomfortable about it.

Yeah. Thumbnails posted in the forum show even when blacklisted. For testing, I added 'cub' to my blacklist, and yet FeralBeast's images in this thread still show.

dragon_tales
sesame_street
spongebob_squarepants
scat
friendship_is_magic rating:s
cub

I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium x64, Firefox 12.0 Beta.

EDIT: lol I just updated to Firefox 13.0 Beta, but of course the issue still occurs.

I like the Avatars idea Honestly, nice job!, I get to be Pyramid head with a "Sexy and I know it pose", and I love Silent Hill.

Also the fact that you can Blacklist Avatars, makes it neat.

Updated by anonymous

I'm having the same problem as Valence.
Blacklist: Scat
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Browser: Google Chrome 18.0.1025.168 m

Updated by anonymous

Thumbnail blacklist issue
My blacklist are as follows:
castration
scat
diapers
watersports
my_little_pony
friendship_is_magic
mlp
pooping
urine
peeing
OS: Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit
Browser: google chrome 18.0.1025.168 m

After I saw the thumbnail blacklist wasn't working at first I added the last 3 tags to see if that would do anything but I had no luck.
