Topic: Where are these mysterious rules?

Posted under General

I got a negative... thingy on my account. it just said read the rules.

I searched for "rules" on the site map, and on a few of the help pages, and in the forum, and in the wiki......

SERIOUSLY?... If you want people to follow the rules, you really ought to put them in a very obvious place.

You must not have looked very hard, as they're right there on the first screen in the wiki.

They're also linked in the TOS, which you're supposed to read before making an account.

lolsifications. It's up to the individual admin, if you have a problem with it you can contact Char.

could be a bad day for the admin, ive had it happen but usually they are decent about righting wrongs they do (as they did for me) or justifying their actions. Nobody's perfect but all in all the staff here are a good bunch.

It was your first time, so a neg was warrented. Back when I accidently uploaded sexyfur for the first time, I got a neg, and I think I was banned but I can't remember that far back. I miss mellis.

So an admin can take off pictures they don't like or what they dont 'see fit for the site' and now you're telling me the admin can be any were from telling you hey just dont do it again or just a flat out ban...ya that's real fare its up to opinion rather then what punishment fits the crime.

Yeah, I see it now. I was getting to the wiki from the site map, which completely lacks a link to the first page.

Also, It's been a year since I made an account, and it's a very long DNP list. I haven't looked at it since then. Of course I'm not gonna remember. =P

No one ever gets banned from posting DNP unless they do it multiple times.

If you did, it was by the old administration.

With it being a public forum, anyone is allowed to make a quip or two. Just as long as it doesn't get excessive.

So how many people need to join, contribute and interact with a site BEFORE the admins should CONSIDER running it like a democracy, just so everyone involved is treated evenhandedly?

The biggest sites on the web don't act like a democracy—Facebook, Google, and so on. That's because they're providing free services, just like this site. Unless their actions threaten their income, there is no need to.

I don't know about that. Facebook and Google both take a lot of heat from users regarding the policies, especially concerning privacy. Sometimes so much so, that they change said policies.
And as far as threatening their income, what could do that at this point besides an apocalypse?

Actually, democracy rarely means freedom or evenhanded treatment. Historically, it means the tyranny of the majority dominates the society, with the minorities forced to revolt violently if they want any representation. That's why the USA decided to opt for a Republic instead.

When they take heat, they're also hemorrhaging users. Users are their capital: the fewer people using their products, the fewer people see their ads, the less ad revenue gets generated. That is what effects change with these companies. The desire to make users happy is directly proportional to how much income relies on those users being happy.

Besides, I'm pretty sure I can count on one hand the number of active users who have expressed dissatisfaction with the current administration in the forums in the last six months, and that's counting trolls who do it for sport and idiots who wouldn't recognize logic if they were beaten over the head with the collected works of Aristotle.

Whereas more people than that have voiced support for the current administration in this thread alone.

So.

Yay democracy! :)

Char

Former Staff

We will add changes in the next site update to make the links to the rules painfully obvious in the site map. Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention.

It won't happen. Running a site like this requires too much technical knowledge (programming the code) and day to day decisions. If we voted on every site change, on every admonition meted out, this site would have long ago turned to shit and would be bugged to hell. The administration does consider user input. It's why we have a feedback thread and a bug report thread. It's why every user's record is freely visible. I've seen a number of changes be brought into place based on community request, and basically every change in the use of tags is initiated by the users, not the administration. They're about as evenhanded as one can get while still being human.
