Topic: .jpg.html

Posted under General

I noticed when I try to go save an image to my computer from e621 now, that they save as html files.

.jpg.html
.png.html
.gif.html

Etc

What's up with that? I can't seem to figure out any way to save a functional image file to my computer other than copying the image, pasting it in GIMP and saving it.

Odd, tested just now and it works fine. Does it do it with all images? Have you tried "Save Link As" on the image link in the sidebar?

I have no problem either, sounds like a browser issue.

It does it if...

I right click and save the image.
I right click, open in a new tab, and save the image.
I click the "image" link on the sidebar and save from there.

:/

Seems to do it no matter how I access the image. It wasn't doing it a week ago.

EDIT: I wont' deny it's possibly a browser issue. But it doesn't happen on any website except e621.

if firefox, try righ tclick view image and save from there

Try renaming it from filename.jpg.html to filename.jpg and clicking OK on the warning popup.

Does that help?

Naw, when I do that, and go to open the file, it says it's unreadable.

If I let it get saved as .html, when I try to open it, it tells me...

“2e94310f39bec15d567d9adf0c572426.jpg.html” is a web application which was downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?

... Then I open it, and it sends me to this broken webpage

file:///post?tags=md5%3A2e%2F94%2F2e94310f39bec15d567d9adf0c572426

It's really weird, cause I'm normally good with computers, but this has me completely baffled. I've never seen anything like it before.

Close your browser and start it in safe mode (Firefox) or Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->Internet Explorer (No Add-Ons) and then try again. If that fixes it, it's definitely a browser issue.

You might be behind a proxy that is mangling MIME types. This might happen if you access e621 from a school or company's Internet connection, or some wireless internet connections. Alternatively your router may be mangling HTTP traffic for some reason, if it's doing any web filtering or what not.

Ahhh.... I see what you mean now. My smartphone browser does this.
And is vastly irritating.

when you save a picture it should give you two options, what to name it and what to save it as (which is right below what to name it as.) make sure you either save it as an image, or "all files" with the image type behind the image name exp: image.jpeg
for windows at least =P
