Topic: Under appreciated/ under used anthro species

Posted under Off Topic

I was just wondering what people think are the most under appreciated/ under used species of animal for anthropomorphic characters. I think there is a lack of donkeys, hares, beagles, golden retrievers and polar bears in furry art.

My apologies, I didn't realise this was something that nobody cares about. Oh well, I'll be interesting one day.

More polar bears would be neat. Dogs, wolves, dragons, horses, etc. get boring after a while.

Underused.. I amy think of snakes (I may think about two out my head, fyunny enough, I know them personally - edit: er, scratch that, Husky linked they names and pics, they didn't load to me), porcupines, hedgehogs, bears, wolverines, etc. , etc.
And not necessary same as "under apprecianted" may be? E.g. quite bunch of people in fandom tend to bully or troll at those who got mouse or skunk 'sona.

ooh, Foo Dogs! Now there's a cool idea.

Personally, I'd like to see some more Tasmanian tigers. There are a handful of them out there, but not enough! That and non-rouge bats.

Hagfish, lamprey, snails/slugs, manta rays/stingrays, and pangolins.
More bear and rhino ladies would be neat too.

Always need more hyenas. Also, I always like seeing crocodiles.

I'm biased cause I've been drawing a lot of foo dog art as of late. XD

There is zero gharial porn on this site and probably scarce traces on the internet. I am disappoint. I lack a fursona, but If I made one, it would probably be a Gharial just to go about bringing more attention to their majesty.

Non-dinosaur, non-pterodactyl extinct species. Leptictidium, chalicotheres, indricotheres, ground sloths, mammoths, glyptodonts, gomptotheres, and so on.

Really want to see more bears which aren't muscle-gut or obese. I like 'em ok, but it seems like bears get drawn with just the one set of proportions. I'd like to see a greater variety of physiques. Otherwise it just gets monotonous.

Most of your insects get underused and underappreciated. Mosquitoes get no love. I guess it takes some kind of internal fortitude to want something 'creepy crawly' for your fursona? idk. Slugs and snails can have some really beautiful mating habits, but I don't see it often depicted in art. That just seems like a missed opportunity.

It also seems like fish don't get much use except as a prop (eating, fishing) or decoration (a kimono-wearing fox coming out of a cloud of swimming koi for-no-apparent-reason).

I like me some crocs/gators, but the faces are usually...ehh. I've seen one or two incredibly well done ones though. Quality>quantity is extremely important here, I feel.

As far as I know, snails and slugs kinda 'hug' each other, then proced to impale each other with a spear of hardened reproductive material, which is aimed to the other egg deposit or something.
Snails and Slugs scare me.

Not leopard slugs. They dangle in midair while twining around each other. Then, when the foreplay is over, each herm leopard slug gets out their own giant, blue, flexible penis (I am not making this up) and then their penis' entwine. Some describe it as almost flowerlike, but idk if I'd go that far. The blue penis bundle does almost seem luminescent though as it swaps sperm back and forth. No violent impalements are involved. In the end they both drop to the ground, pregnant, and go lay eggs somewhere. So yeah, I'm sure some mating habits are the stuff of horror shows (bedbugs make sex look downright gladatorial) but some is strangely beautiful. Helpful video in case you want to see it [actual mating starts around 1:44]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wG9qpZ89qzc

Btw, that fish picture is pretty cool. Never seen it before, but that is entirely the stuff I'm curious to see more of. I know the anatomy is maybe a little challenging, but more fish anthros would be cool to see. =)
