Topic: Tag subscriptions

Posted under General

Why is this a Privileged-only feature? I enjoy fixing/adding tags, but I'm only at member status. Having the ability to make tag subscriptions for tagcount, tagme, and others would help quite a bit. Also being able to do subscriptions for favorite tags might be nice too.

Does this system put a strain on the server or something?

Not entirely sure but I'm guessing its either just a reward for being a good user, or it is very resource expensive and given out scarcely

Well, as far as I know, tag subscriptions are lists which get updated every 15 minutes automatically by the server and not "live" when you click them.

Multiply that with all users, maybe 3 or 4 subscriptions per user and you will have quite a bit strain every now and then.

Tag subscriptions can be very intensive processes that happen once every 30 minutes. If any user could do them, they could do some really weird things.

Such as plot revenge.

Why not use RSS for the tags you want? I use them for comics that get uploaded here :V

I was afraid that was the case. Is there any way to perhaps add another type of tag subscription that doesn't continually scan for those tags? So that you have your list of subscriptions:

-female
-pudding
-duct_tape

And clicking on one of the tags returns results with those tags? Would save a bit of time from going into Posts, manually typing in the tag in the search box, etc.

There is!
If you set your subscriptions to 'unlisted', they still show up as tag subscriptions on your profile, but not the actual post results

Welp, I guess I didn't know that you could set up manual subscriptions on your profile page. I just clicked 'Subscriptions' at the top of the Posts page and got the whole shpiel about it being for privileged members only. Now I feel a right Charlie. :X
