sketch -> ink -> coloured.
If it's a fan-colouring, parent the coloured version to the sketch or whatever image they re/coloured.

Is "A -> B" here supposed to mean "A is the parent of B" or "A is the child of B"?

Ink should be the parent of the sketch, and the final version should be the parent of the ink. That is, if a post can be a child and a parent at the same time...
If not, then just make the final one the parent of both the inked one and the sketch.

This is a lot less confusing. Instead of having to look through countless parent and child posts, lets just have the final version as the parent, and everything else as the child of that image.

That's what I said?

Wasn't paying attention, but I wanted to make it clear that i'd rather not have a long line of parents and children, but would rather have one parent for all of the child posts.

Oh, I see what you mean.

An issue with having the coloured version as parent is that sometimes there's multiple official coloured versions of a single post though. Not all that common, but when it exists, how should such be handled?

I suppose we could use whichever the artist deems the "most official/finished," and in the event we don't have the artist's word on that we'll just go by which colored version was created first.

Damn. I've been doing this entirely backwards. I've always been putting the image that is posted first to the board as the parent, with all later forms as children. 9 times out of 10 that's the sketch that's the parent of a colored version, or the original and a fan coloring.

Which is why I was asking, for clarity.

A fan coloring would be a child of the parent, however. Same as edits. The parent should be the "real" or "official" one, even if it's only a sketch.

The first coloured version by the original artist should be the parent for all others. All others are recolours or fan colourings.

Unless it's edited/fixed/updated by the artist. Then THAT is the parent.

I'm stating my opinion. Don't try to correct my opinion, please.
