Topic: Source Replacemant

Posted under General

I didn't know that you could search for sources. I'm a bit pressed for time at the moment, but I'll try and update some of them later.

FA sucks. The end.

Yes, we all know about your deep-seated hatred of Furaffinity. You don't need to remind us EVERY TIME someone references them. This isn't even the right thread for that kind of talk.

An easy way to casually do this is to pick an artist, figure out a valid URL for them (so many people are leaving FA these days), and then focus on their works until they're all done. That's four artists down so far, and I'll try to do some more this afternoon.

Yes, Yes I do.

Eh, she has an art blog. I'd suggest using that.

But it's not even an accurate source! That blog is only for new art, and we have stuff over five years old from them.

No, you don't. This petty grudge is so childish. You hate them, get over it. Nobody cares. It happened so long ago.

A functional link to the artist is better than a dead link though. Even if people can't find the original upload, at least they can find more art by the artist. Unless she re-uploads everything, that's about the best we can do.

You're totally missing the point of sourcing. It's for locating where it is still available for viewing in a place that the artist originally posted it.
The scenario you describe is more suited to the artist's artist page.

Possibly, but if there is no source then it's best to link to their active gallery (if any) than to leave no source at all. After all, the artist is the source of the art itself.

Link to their account in their artist page. Do not put the artist's page as the source if it cannot be found at that location.

So don't link a source to anything unless we're willing to check through their entire gallery for the image? I'll hold off on changing anything else then, since browsing through FA's gallery system is a royal pain.

When possible, try to link to where the image can originally be found, and if it exists on multiple sites, try to use the official one (as opposed to Fchan or whatever), or the most popular one (FA instead of VCL). If you don't know where it came from or it was deleted, just link to their main gallery or something. There really are no hard and fast rules on where to link to.

Actually, I think we should use the artists choice when given an option, like if they'd rather you post their inkbunny instead of their FA, do that instead.
