Here's what I'm seeing now around people on this website, people tend to lash out or argue in comments. Everyone should know about the mail feature in My Account. If anyone wants to talk to a user personally, use the GODDAMNED feature. Refrain yourselves from getting into trouble.
Has this feature ever been used? Has anyone ever used the My Mail feature? This topic is your chance to talk.

People who have been here a while tend to know it exists, but since most people only learn of mail when they get disciplined they tend to not use it. I use it all the time.

Trust me, people know about private messaging. I have almost 70 pages that can attest to that. It's just easier and less personal to speak out in the comments.

Since I don't even argue, more so care about anyone saying negatives about whoever, too many users are all "MaIl? too slow; I can argue with somepony quickly in comments.'

No one ever sends {subject name here} a message stating, "Dear Chap, whilst I disagree with what you are saying, let's agree to disagree the elements of this nature. ~Mr. Monopoy guy"

I'm not too sure on if there is a mailbox limit, I like to motion a 'delete' button for ingoing/outgoing mail since some might be no longer needed~cluttering up room

I've used it from time to time to report trolls and the like (and maybe an adbot, but that may have been a different site). The report function has made my use of the mail obsolete, but it might be handy later on. I imagine that artists will use it for commission related projects as the artist functions of the site evolve.

Yeah, you could use that or just not insult other users.

I'm honestly hard pressed to think of a situation where the average user would need it. It's a nice bonus to the ones that do, but it's not a core part of the site (and there's nothing particularly wrong with that). As I said, it'll probably get more use (and emphasis) once the site starts aiming itself towards artists.

Just going off mails I've sent or received:
-express thanks for uploading certain pictures
-coordinate uploads ("are you planning on uploading more of that comic?")
-appeal a deletion
-ask the owner of a private pool to fix the order of posts in it
Also, the average user needs to be able to receive private messages from the staff ("Your user record has been updated: {GOOD JOB/STOP IT/NO SRSLY STOP IT OR WE'RE BANNING YOU}", or "We've looked into your complaint"), and a mailbox is the obvious way to handle it.

You seem to be misunderstanding me: It's great that it's there, but I don't see it as a big deal that most people don't know about it. It's not a key feature of the site that people are overlooking, it's just a convenient perk.

Ive used the mail rather frequently to better chat with users in a not so public way and discuss things that are often better left private, or just to answer questions either I or the other conversor may have. So... I feel the mail system is quite nice, people just dont exploit its full potential .

Okay, then what do you actually want to see done about it?

There's nothing to be gained from removing the mail feature, and the same can be said about a lot of the functions of the site: notes, the wiki, IRC, search operators, etc.

There's plenty of documentation out there for each of those things in the wiki and help sections. If people don't want to familiarize themselves withe each and every aspect of the site then they won't bother.

Agreed, I dont believe any of it should be removed, just maybe used more.

Also keep in mind, often said feature doesn't get used because a person has no need for it. Sure, it's good to have it in case one needs it, but that doesn't mean one needs to use it "just because".

It's mostly a mod tool, but mod tools are goooood.

Would there be any benefit from getting rid of it at all anyway?

Depends on what you mean by "flirt."

It's very easy for any form of flirting to break the rules, namely the first two.

But if you can flirt without it being creepy or devolving into a sexual roleplay, then I guess so.
