Topic: A little confused

Posted under General

So there's been quite a few uploads of tagged goldenwolf (a dozen or more) from the user Aces and I'm a little confused on a few things.

1) EDIT: New question - Does photobucket count as a legitimate "source?"

2) Her (goldenwolf) website (goldenwolfen.com) says not to upload more than 10 pictures onto another site yet I see more than 10 altogether. There's also her statement about linking the art back to her website, however on these uploads I see them coming from photobucket.

http://www.goldenwolfen.com/info/artusage.html

"You may post my art on another website (such as your personal webpage) as long as you take no more than 10 pieces, you do not remove my ©, and you give a link back to my site here (goldenwolfen.com)"

4) I'm a little weary on flagging for deletion. If there is a "chain" of posts that should be flagged, would I flag them all? For example: A lot of SL screenshots
And if I made a mistake flagging something, would it get me in a 'lot' of trouble?

5) I'm also lost on where the "rules" link is here. I suppose I know the rules by now, but I might be missing something (or a lot of things).

And when it comes to topics such as these, would I contact a moderator or is making a thread not a big deal? Thanks.
EDIT: Tired. Made a lot of mistakes.

Updated

1) Source is the 'source' of the image, photobucket is fine.

2) That's something for the artist page. Perhaps you could fill information in there!
4) Use discretion when flagging for deletion. If you flag a lot of things for BAD REASONS (eg, just because you don't like them), you will get punished.

1) It's better to give an artist's gallery site or their FA/dA/whatever gallery. It's partly about driving fans there so they can get more, give feedback, and buy stuff. Think of it like that.

2) I suppose that's a guideline for individual posters. Certainly that's pretty reasonable, and it should probably go into the artist wiki page here. And everybody pick the nicest 10 they like :) What I'd do is alias goldenwolfen to goldenwolf, make the artist page here link to all her galleries, and include the guideline above.

4) [heh, wha'ppen to 3)?] If you flag stupidly a lot, you're likely to attract negative attention. Yes, during shark week that could be a limited ban, but you can always acknowledge mistakes in the comments. OTOH, <i>do</i> flag anything from litigious bastard's sites, quietly flag anything an artist's asked in person to have removed, lower-quality duplicates (with the parent set), and actually illegal stuff. Stuff that's just low-quality probably won't get approved anyway, and drops off the site after 3 days.

5) Rules... well, there's a lot of ambiguity and stuff open to interpretation and judgement. This is probably intentional. However your best bet for links that explain what's going on are http://e621.net/help/ and http://www.e621.net/wiki/show?title=avoid_posting

The wiki can do that job, click on the '?' near the artist's tag, and fill the entry accordingly.

...quietly flag anything an artist's asked in person to have removed...

Actually, I would prefer it if only the actual owner of the image copyrights did this - the creator, or, if it was a commission in which 100% ownership rights of the subject and piece were transferred, the commissioner, unless we note otherwise.

Since this IS the internet and the person could be making the deletion request for any number of un-altruistic reasons, from starting drama to whiteknighting to having a personal grudge/relationship with/against the artist, we'd like to hear these requests directly from the source so as to best determine they are genuine.

If they do not wish to create an account or use the site, we can respect that, and the owner may also make deletion requests through email. In all cases, we take owner deletion requests seriously (so long as the owner acts like a reasonable, mature individual - act like a screaming child and don't be suprised when we respond as if you were, in fact, a child) and so we may require some basic proof you are who you say you are (often a polite post or matching email from the artist's FA page hosting the image is sufficient).

In the -vast- majority of cases, the artists do exactly this and the images are taken down as quickly as the staff's schedules will allow.

Most of the time when images are not removed, it is due to the individual refusing to contact us in person, instead choosing to use proxies/friends/fanbase to harass us, and resorting to juvenile tactics such as blocking the entire staff from their FA page and then whining there about how horrible we are (safe of course from any rebuttal, criticism, or discussion/facts about the site they are blindly raging at, and making us unable to actually contact them TO resolve the problem), blatantly making things up (goes hand in hand with the previous one - ALL THE TIME we get people screaming about completely fabricated 'conversations' or 'facts' (I am not even going to bother talking to them, I am just going to freak out on my FA and scream because I heard from and friend of a friend of a friend of a friend that they didn't remove his picture so they are fascists!), or sending us insulting emails (some of the best ones over the years include comparing me to Hitler, threatening to rape my family/pets, threatening to somehow send us to 'pound your ass federal prison', and the ever original 'we live in our parent's basements while I get it on with REAL girls/boys'. Hell, I had someone once tell me I was a bigot because I banned them for championing molesting children. I could write a book on the insane of some of our disgruntled users.

I guess what I am trying to say here is...
A lot of people who want images taken down are COMPLETELY INSANE and in many cases have no actual tie to the images in question. So if you know someone who's image is here and who would want it removed with a good reason, PLEASE just get them directly to politely send us a brief email, or file the deletion request themselves. It saves us so much headache, and taking the time to respond in person in an adult, rational manner speaks very highly of that artist's maturity.

There's some good stuff in that post Mellis, and unless I've missed it, I haven't seen anything on the site which describes image take-down procedure.

Maybe it would be a good idea to take parts of that, or heck, just write an original post, that describes how to request that YOUR art be taken down from the site, and stickying it. Perhaps in an FAQ style (those are delightfully relatively idiot proof).

That way, people can be directed to that link, which should hopefully answer any questions they have, and save ya'll the time of having to explain this over and over.

I agree. Make it easier for people to see. :P

Even internet-oriented people like myself get lost sometimes..
