Implicating cthulhu -> cthulhu_mythos.

Reason: Has to be part of the mythos if it's Cthulhu, no?

Technically its not the "Cthulhu_mythos" its the lovecraftian Eldar_god mythos. But it should be Cthulhu -> H.P Lovecraft/ Elder god / Eldrich abomination / Mythos of Ry'lah

but R'yleh is just where Cthulhu sleeps; that wouldn't work. Besides, while you may have heard of Shub Niggurath or The King in Yellow, you're far more likely to know Cthulhu than you are any other Lovecraftian Elder God, Great Old One, or whatever. Especially since it was more than just Lovecraft- he was the one that made the base, but quite a few other authors have written work within the Lovecraftian setting, making it attributable to him (which a few are) but more properly to the Cthulhu Mythos as a whole.

Besides, to quote from Wiki: "The Cthulhu Mythos, also known as the Lovecraft Mythos,[1] is a shared fictional universe created in the 1920s by American horror writer H. P. Lovecraft.

The term was coined by Lovecraft's associate August Derleth, and named after Cthulhu, a powerful fictional entity in Lovecraft's stories. It refers to a loose framework formed by common elements (such as places, names, or entities) that appear in more than one tale, adding continuity and depth to the works. Authors writing in the Lovecraftian milieu have continued to use elements of the mythos in an ongoing expansion of the fictional universe, sometimes in ways far removed from Lovecraft's original conception.[2] The mythos is not necessarily consistent from story to story, as many writers, including Lovecraft himself, would frequently alter dates, names, and locations to suit the framework of one particular work."

In other words, it's their own name for it.

Well, not really; it's only a part of the mythos if it's canon. The Cthulhu_mythos tag shouldn't be used for pictures that just include Him, it should be used for pictures that are actually about the mythos themselves.

IMO:

cthulhu implies lovecraft_mythos
Shub_niggurath implies lovecraft_mythos
other relevant terms implies lovecraft_mythos
lovecraft_mythos implies h.p._lovecraft

i'd agree, except the part where I pointed out that Cthulhu Mythos is the name that they, the authors who have created it, gave to the mythos. So calling it something else just seems wrong. I do agree that they should imply H.P.Lovecraft, as he was the original creator.

Currently h.p._lovecraft is type Character
https://e621.net/wiki/show?title=h.p._lovecraft

but that means when looking at upload tagged with h.p._lovecraft ,
I expect to see Howard
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:H._P._Lovecraft,_June_1934.jpg

I skimmed through all uploads at e621 tagged with h.p._lovecraft
and did NOT see Howard in any of them.

Suggest maybe h.p._lovecraft tag be changed to copyright tag,
and any uploads depicting Howard get tagged as h.p._lovecraft_(character)

examples:
1) https://www.furaffinity.net/view/5324827/ "Young Lovecraft - by Pandora-s-Matryoska"
2) https://www.furaffinity.net/view/17736271/ "Greetings, cute grimalkin - by JustARat" "...HP Lovecraft with a cat..."
3) https://www.furaffinity.net/view/25213467/ "Halloween 2017 - by KuramaFurrypaw" "Max is dressed up as Howard Phillips Lovecraft"
4?) https://www.furaffinity.net/view/27297812/ "Owlcraft - by shtrix-kot" (owl dressed as Lovecraft??)

and if any art of Howard Phillips Lovecraft from manga Bungo Stray Dogs
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bungou_Stray_Dogs#The_Guild
get uploaded, tag as
h.p._lovecraft_(Bungou_Stray_Dogs) ?

example: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/25717929/
"H. P. Lovecraft (BSD) - by Vako_Edelveys"

( cthulhu_mythos implies h.p._lovecraft tag. )

Can a mod please change h.p._lovecraft
FROM type character
TO type copyright ?
Thank you.

See below or previous post (above) for why.

* * *
The tags cthulhu, yog-sothoth, aphoom-zhah, shub-niggurath
implicate to cthulhu_mythos
WHICH is fine by me.

BUT cthulhu_mythos "implies the following tags: h.p._lovecraft"

I skimmed through all the posts tagged with h.p._lovecraft again
and none of them seemed to depict Howard. (see post above)

Since cthulhu_mythos implies h.p._lovecraft,
(and none of the posts seem to depict Howard)
I attempted to change h.p._lovecraft FROM type character to type copyright,
but the system said "Only mods can change the type of tags with more than 100 posts"

(searched forum for "h.p._lovecraft" and this is the main thread that came up)
