Topic: Survey: Let's Plays

Posted under Off Topic

Mmm, it's been a while since I've made a thread topic but I wanted to take a survey.

Question: If I made Let's Plays on my Youtube channel, would you watch it? Yes or No?

You do not have to explain your reasoning but it is encouraged.

Updated

If you play the "Souls" series game... and struggle through all of them, sure :3c

Well.. That depends entirely on the quality.
There's too much to choose from, so I'm picky about which LPs I watch.

Updated by anonymous

Nah.
I've got peculiar tastes. I only really watch Jefmajor and a few others.

Updated by anonymous

I would watch it if it's unique and personal. I've seen a lot of let's players trying to copy certain youtubers.

I would at least give yours a try though. :)

It depends, really. I can't say whether I speak for quite a few people, or just myself, but a YouTuber has to have a few qualities to make them interesting.

They need to be motivated, happy, excited, talkative, focused, and have a good sense of humor, for me to be remotely interested in them. They also need to have good recording equipment (No potato-recorded videos, and can-with-cotton-in-it audio. I don't always look for 1080p60, but low quality, artifacted/pixelated videos don't cut it.) they also need to have good diction, I need to understand what's so funny! Diversity is also important. Play a wide range of games, even ones outside of your comfort zone. Play a game that frustrates you, and blow your frustration out of proportion. Being a YouTuber is like being an actor, your "job" is to entertain your viewers.

That said, I can't honestly judge whether or not I'd watch your videos, because I'd need to see a few first before I can judge. Play some games, record them, be yourself, upload them to YouTube. If you don't want to link the videos here (I dunno how that works with advertising?), Dmail them to me, I'll give them an immediate watch, and respond.

If you choose to do that, good luck! I always look forward to being entertained by new and upcoming YouTubers.

sure.

But don't try too hard to keep our attention. There are many examples of youtubers whose personalities and jokes seem forced.

I legit don't care if you're a bit plain. Just play the game

Oh definitely, forced jokes/personalities are the worst. I can think of a few YouTubers I can't stand because of that exact reason. There's a nice balance in moderation.

Word of advice: don't do Minecraft.

And don't be like this

If you can promise those, then sure

Less-vital advice: always listen to your video before uploading it (common sense, but...). And you might not want to upload your first attempt.

Getting a co-commentator is also worth considering.

The market for Let's Play's is already saturated.

I would agree, but-

Depends on what games, really.

A good formula is a game that A) hasn't been covered very much, B) has a good story that's worth talking about, and C) you enjoy and aren't terrible at.

Updated by anonymous

long as the commentary/acting isn't too annoying or over the top, i may check it out.

been watching some of markiplier's videos lately but i doubt i'll ever like pewdiepie (WAY too annoying in general imo).

Updated by anonymous

Maybe... i dont use 'let's play' yet but i use 'all' i dont know if im going to do walkthrough i suck so...i dont know how to record a tv but i know how to record on pc and emulators

Updated by anonymous

Depends on the game and whether or not you are British.

Updated by anonymous

Well, I'm not one of watching Let's Plays because they're playing uninteresting games for me (like minecraft) or I get bored because it's different from actually playing the game...

But if you wanna do it, go ahead

I'll upload one on Monday and I'll let you dudes be the judge.

Husky might be too fit for your tastes?

Only if you exclusively play every Meet & Fuck game.
That would be agonizingly fun to watch.

I don't know. That's why I'm only doing computer games

If you do console games, get a capture card

camcorder LPs are... not recommended

That's exactly why I won't do those. I'm not a newb when it comes to filming and editing (over 10 years of experience). I know what to avoid in terms of quality issues.

I speak in a very deep British accent - that seems you hate it XD XD
And You should see me IRL, I have mustache and sideburns XD XD XD

I know you probably are hating me as fuck XD

You'd make a great let's play narrator/gamer.

I like to do things live, no scripts. Improv is my thing. Other than that, I just do these for fun. I'm not trying to be the next Markiplier or PewDiePie or something :V

I actually prefer spontaneous reactions like in your video than trying to sync in the voice in post-production.

It feels much more natural and flowing and it's easier for me to identify with the person playing, but that might just be me. xD

Updated by anonymous

If you do anything for a 'real' game with any further depth or duration than what is essentially a flash game, you'll likely need a script.

You also have to decide on what kind of LP you'd do; Informative and 100% Run LPs are the most difficult, as it requires, obviously the most effort. Casual LPs are reasonable. If you're doing it for fun, sound like you're having fun. All very simple.
The most effort should be placed in the editing of any video.

Don't mutter. Don't mumble. Maybe get a cohost.

Very basic stuff. The video capture software seems to function suitably. The microphone doesn't make me want to put a drill to my nonexistent ears; I'd say the technical stuff passes.

It depends on what you're playing, really. A live commentary of Metal Gear or something is not likely to end well...

I guess I'm the casual LP dude for now. The editing was tedious but I learned new things that I've never done before in editing. All in all, I had fun
