A device refers to physical hardware or equipment that is made for a particular purpose. This is a broad term that includes electrical, electronic, and mechanical devices. Fantasy oriented settings may contain other types of devices (e.g. magic).

This tag can be used for visible mechanical or electrical contraptions, or machines. Consider using more specific tags in addition to this tag such as the name of the device, and what type it is (electrical, electronic, mechanical).

Not to be confused with

component - A smaller part of a device or machine. If the object is attached to a larger device, this tag is probably more appropriate.
plot_device - Abstract examples of devices should not use the device tag.
