Species: manticore
The manticore is a Persian legendary creature, similar to the Egyptian sphinx. Traditionally, it had a humanoid head, a lion's body and a heavily spiked tail, holding venomous spines, which they are sometimes said to be able to shoot as projectiles. They also have three rows of teeth to devour victims whole. Occasionally, they are portrayed with wings
However, modern interpretations depict them slightly differently. Modern manticore, like their traditional forms, have a lion's body and venomous tails, as well as sometimes having wings. However, rather than spiked tails, they tend to have scorpion tails rather than spined tails, and also sometimes have horns. They also usually lack the multiple rows of teeth.
In the medieval ages and beyond, the manticore was misinterpreted by European culture, thanks to false tales in regards to the origin of the creature's name. This led to the creation of the similar mythological creature, the mantyger.
