Species: synapsid

Synapsida: A clade including mammals and animals more closely related to mammals than to non-mammalian amniotes, defined by the presence of a temporal fenestra in the skull behind each eye.
For the sake of tagging this should not tagged on mammals, but can be applied to other members of this clade whom do not fit into any other category. An example of this is the dimetrodon, a pelycosaur from the permian period (before the age of dinosaurs) and often mistaken as a dinosaur. It is worth noting that just because a name ends in -saurus it does not automatically mean it is a dinosaur. An example is the secodontosaurus, another sphenacodontid pelycosaur from the permian period and in the same family as dimetrodon.

Trivia: Reptiles and birds are diapsid while primitive reptiles and parareptiles were anapsid.
