Without attempting to read bipface's mind, I think I can safely point out that this means that the artist also has a stake in whether the image stays up.

yeah that's one way of thinking about it

though really what i had in mind was only at a basic level: Stiban was undecided about his course of action, so putting himself in the artist's shoes might help him decide. at least to some extent.
but it sounds like that's totally out of the question, judging by his response.
