Topic: Rule suggestion: complaining about forgotten or erroneous tags

Posted under General

Seriously, the site's whole POINT is that anyone can edit the tagging. There should be NO EXCUSE whatsoever for anyone to ever complain in the comments that a certain tag has been forgotten (I'm not taking into account any potential vandalism or other tagging mischief that is itself a rule violation, obviously) when it would have wasted less time to edit the post and add the tag in the first place.

The great thing about open tagging isn't describing the image, it's showing everyone online that I did.

I don't mind people complaining about missing tags if they actually do add the missing tag before/after complaining.

Slightly funny when users take about thirty seconds to whine about a missing tag, and then not add the tag themselves. It takes ten seconds or so to add a tag.

I do 170 taggings everyday as my project, it takes me about one hour :S

Many users don't realize that they're mistagging. So pointing it out can be useful.

But yeah, whining about missing tags without adding them, that's a bit silly.

That's what the REASON field is for, but no one ever reads those.

True. I've cleaned up after some users for months, and they never notice those. Most users just don't seem to pay any attention to their old posts.

Getting a large amount of tag edits is easy. Doing it right is hard.

I use it sometimes. Sometimes.

I think I'll use it more often now.

that's what i usually do. add/change the tags in question then leave a reminder/advice/etc. though, not always the latter of the 2.

I mention a missing tag when a user is missing that tag consistently, or incorrectly applying a tag consistently.

The tag reason field is only visible from inside the tagging history, and nobody reads that history if they aren't specifically looking for it. For it to be "really" useful it should more visible somehow (preferably somewhere very close to the tag edit field).

When you have a tag blacklisted and the uploader forgets/isn't aware of said tag, and you have to tag it in yourself, then that defeats the entire purpose of blacklisting said tag it in the first place

And more people who have to tag in things that the uploader forgot means more people who believe it's perfectly fine to tack on tagme to all their uploads because 'somebody else will do it for me'

More optimistically, tagging in something ensures it's on your blacklist indefinitely (assuming it's valid)

My take on it is this:

If you want to complain about a missed tag or incorrect tag fix it then politely point it out. Things like: "Ugghh...why can't you tag the gender, its right there." or "Jesus just tag what you see its not hard." are just flat out uncalled for. Things like "You missed the gender tag, but I got your back." or "That's actually not a herm, but a dickgirl." are civil and get the point across.

If the tag is missed or incorrect and you don't correct it...then why did you spend the time typing out the comment to complain about it? Honestly the next comment should validly complain that you complained but didn't do anything about it even though you could.

These whiners just want everyone to know how obsessive compulsive they are about devoting every single discrete and obscure tagging rule to memory.

He's a tag-whore on E621, on a furry porn imageboard. He does it for free. He takes his job very seriously, he does it because it is the only amount of power & control he will ever have in his pathetic life. He yells at tagging he doesn't like because whenever he gets upset he has an anxiety attack. He complains about tags he doesn't like because they interfere with the large backlog of scat porn cartoons he still has to add tags to. He will never have a real job, he will never move out of his parent's house, he will never be at a healthy weight, he will never know how to cook anything besides a hot pocket, he will never have a girlfriend, he will never have any friends.

It's good to tell people, especially repeat offenders, when they miss basic things (gender, orientation, and the more polarizing fetishes and fandoms).

But yeah, do try to add it and then say they forgot something :P
