Topic: Personal Favorite Image Pools?

Posted under General

https://e621.net/pool/show/6903

Ive seen this before, someone feels e621 is their personal gallery, so they create their own little pools with which to keep track of their favorite art, when all they had to do is favorite the art and move on. Is this against the rules? if it isnt, it probably should be because pools are for associating similar or a series of images that tell a story, or various parts of the same story, such as a comic. Using it like this strikes me as an abuse of this feature. Id report it to a mod, but there was no option to report a pool, just to report an image, and nothing is wrong with any of the images in the pool, just the pool itself. sorry, if this thread doesnt belong, just didnt know where else to post this....

looks like someone doesn't know what the favorite button is used for.

also, this sort of thing is quite common among the pools on gelbooru.

example: Black haired Loli beauties description of said pool: A collection of my favorite pictures of Loli's with dark or black hair ^_~

^^
that is not what the pool function is to be used for, it's why there is a "favorite" button.

here at e621 we typically have pools that are a comic or set of pics in a series but over at gelbooru it could be anything from that to a pool for any one specific tag (and the point of that is what exactly?) or even pools like the one you linked, cjkrythos.

And as TGW pointed out, there are also sets, in case you wanted to sort your favorites.

I don't get how they can't see the big "Favorite" button, which is just two lines above the "Add to pool" option on the same section... -_-

As the others stated, Pools are not intended for favorites, the reason for this is it adds

Pool
<< Fav art >> the image. This implies the next image is related to the other in a form of such as a comic, or image series.

Sets imply they are similar, but not necessarily related(EG: A set called "Cute Cats" can contain different characters/artists/scenarios) or personal collection of images(EG: Favorites, specific character(Highly recommend using character tags for this instead))
As such you can see the sets at the bottom of the post such as this:

Previous / Random / Next
Sets with this post

In summary:

  • Pools:
    • Comic pages or images specifically related to each other, eg: "The fox and the grapes"
  • Sets:
    • Images(Or comics if you like to get messy with sets) similar to each other, eg: "Images with foxes and grapes"
    • Pictures of cats
    • A set titled "pictures of cats" but contains everything but cats

--EDIT--
Added clarity

I believe I recall an admin saying in cases like these just message a mod or report the user that made the pool. I reported the user just now, fyi.

I don't think this is exactly correct. You can have private sets, and there is no reason why the images in such a set should be similar in any way. It could be a second set of favorites... It could be for a tagging project... It could be for the hell of it. I don't see why any of those options would be a problem for a private set.

Thats where the pictures of cats clause comes in.

I'm not entirely sure if you get what I'm saying, but I don't know how to explain it any better than I just did.

I'm not sure if you get Clawdragons' point. Clawdragons is saying that if you want to make a private set for favorite-of-favorites, ideas for an avatar, pictures you may want to go back to later, etc. it doesn't matter if the pictures lack a visible theme, because only you (or an admin) can see them. I have two private sets, but to you it appears I have none.

Yes, "Pictures of cats" can be "Avatars", "favorites", etc. That's why I "pictures of cats" clause, which generally wouldn't be acceptable as a pool, eg: a personal collection of images. IT MIGHT have been a bit to vague of an example though. :x
I shall edit the post for clarity.

i think that it should be somewhere specified that pools should be used only for comics or image series. the current description can be easily misunderstood.

There's a lot of pools I like, it would take a week to scratch the surface.

Something tells me, you only looked at the title, and didn't actually read what the OP wrote ;)

And a few more:
pool #6907
pool #6933
pool #6934

eh, the first of those 3 seems more appropriate than the other 2 as a pool. the mini comics seen there seem similar enough.

as for the other 2, yeah no, those are clearly favorites lists.

Let me try again: pool #6905

*facepalm* why not have some text somewhere explaining in detail what the pools, favorites/favorite button, and sets are meant to be used for? cause some people clearly don't know.

maybe on the create pool page?

Yeah, but they'll just TL;DR it. You have to include a measure to FORCE people to read it, and have it only need to be checked once before never appearing for that account ever again.
