wat.
You tag what you see, if the character is discernible to be someone you tag them as such. However, since it follows TWYS it wouldn't be a spoiler since you can see what character it is in the first place.
So, I have no idea why you would want to know that.

Mainly because there is a comic on here where part of the plot is that a character's name is a mystery and involves finding out the name

Major Undertale spoilers ahead:
A good example of this is with the game Undertale. You seem to name the main character of the game yourself, but in reality, the character already has a name. His name is Frisk. You learn it at the end of the game (of the pacifist route), and it is a pretty major plot event, as it turns out that the character you named was someone else entirely. Thus, correctly tagging the player-character as "Frisk" would constitute major spoilers for that game.
Edit: Oh. That's a good example too. Are you referring to "Her Name" by Ohmuu? Yeah, definitely that counts too, I think.

Wow please, we knew her name was Pomf since day 1

I wouldn't tag it just based on common sense. I think a lot of users on this site forget what tags are used for:
1) make it easy for users to search for content
2) make it easy for users to avoid certain content
3) make it easier for users to do large amount of tag edits without having to do external research
Tagging her name is pointless (a user could always just search shinx ohmuu) and gives a spoiler. However unless someone wants to remove the tag from 70 pictures, I don't think it's worth worrying about...

TWYS wins, to be honest.
If the character has a name tag the character, even if it's a spoiler.
I don't see a compelling reason why a spoiler (which is only in effect once per person) would be worth more than having it properly tagged and searchable for other users.

it was a boring plot point anyways

I think there's some confusion about the question. We currently seem to have a guideline where some things in comics/pools are tagged on the first page (or every page?) in addition to the page where the character/tag appears.
He's asking if we can avoid tagging a character's name on that first page (and ONLY tag it on the page they actually appear on) if that character's name and/or appearance is a spoiler. That way you don't see it tagged on the first page and have it ruined for you. Nobody's asking to not tag the character at all.

No, he isn't asking that, the character literally shows up on page one, but the viewer only learns the name of the character pretty much at the end.

Does it matter? The artist requested the removal of the comic and it's now gone. Problem solved.

I thought the tag-every-page-the-same thing for pools of comics was just lazy tagging that should be fixed. Is that wrong? It matters a lot for fetish-blacklist stuff where lots of series only start getting fetishy near the end ("last two are vore" is almost a genre)

Matters not, the artist that makes the comic in question (which I had previously asked permission from) just went DNP. Besides dropping my upload thing, pointless anyways.
But yeah, I believe TWYS says the name would be added to every page they are in regardless

No, you're correct. If you can only see that they have red_hair on pages 3, 5, and 8, then only those pages should get tagged with red_hair. If they only have vaginal_penetration on page 17, then only page 17 should get that tag. If there's a bear on page 3 but none on page 6, then only page 3 should be tagged with the bear tag. Comics still are tagged per page, and not for the whole comic.

Well I believe this thread ran it's course, question been answered. Would a lock be appropriate?

I would speak my mind about this, but the Thought Police would arrest me and put me in the "Ministry of Love". Believe me, it's anything but.
