... You have a point.

Switch this to an implication along with all the other (color)_panties tags and you'll have a +1 from me. :D

I wasn't really saying those two were worthful tags or anything

I think those tags are worthwhile. I doubt that there's anyone looking for 'images with red panties', but I'm sure that there are people looking for 'that one image that was really good, it had a lioness in red panties' or something of the sort.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts on the subject.

I do think color_x tags are fine as long as:

  • We keep the "official" ones under basic color names + rainbow (e.g., avoid making a distinction between purple, violet, mauve, and periwinkle). This is mostly to cut down on the number of tags we have to deal with, but also because human/cultural perception of colors vary far too much to be practical (even if we manage to ignore color calibrations in monitors ;))
  • We avoid dark/light_color_x, because color names like this are even more arbitrary, and implications would be a mess.
  • We limit it to the most basic tag names. Panties are probably common enough to have their own tag set, but I'd prefer to discourage things like yellow_fundoshi and green_canine_penis since they are hard to predict and probably harder to clean up once they've spread.

Thoughts?

That sounds perfect. In the use case that I suspect is most common, a broader tag is more likely to hit the correct result, not to mention the administrative benefits.

Might get messy.
What about the <color>_underwear tags, such as blue_underwear? Those have a few posts each. Dunno what would be the best way of handling those if we start tagging specific pieces of underwear by color.

Better get to work, then. There's about 12 basic colors of everything that can be colored. That's going to be a lot of implications

are we going to give separate color tags for all clothes or is it just panties?

Why stop at clothes? The reasoning was that panties were just as worthy (or unworthy) of having colors as anuses and nipples.

Or we could, you know, be sensible people and keep limiting colors to bodyparts and backgrounds.

Limiting to body parts is too loosely defined as well, it should be worded more as to limit colors to fairly relevant/common objects, body part or not. After all I doubt we want things like orange_earlobes, purple_nostrils, etc.

I'd probably be more in favor of some more general (color)_underwear tag than using more specific terms, mostly since less common underwear would have nowhere to go, though keeping both would be a possible compromise.

Yes, but who would actually search for a specific color, unless it's something special like gold_cum?

In the panties case, I'd say since red is a color associated with lust, that red_panties deserves its own tag.

Who decides what is relevant/common? Right now we've got the sexual body parts and hair and eyes. And backgrounds.

I see zero reason to start a policy of appending red_* to random tags. Stick with what we've got. Or nuke the sexual things and stick with hair, eyes, and backgrounds.

Edit:

  • <color>_bow (various colors)

I mean this is what I'm talking about. It's a piece of ribbon, how is it relevant/common?

You are definitely right, that is a really hard and slippery nut to crack. That's also why tag search statistics would also be a good thing to have. But otherwise all we can do is what we do now, to discuss it on a case to case basis.

Well, I'm both with you and against you on that. I don't mind adding "red" to some tags, hence I proposed red_underwear instead of red_panties, i.e. a more general catch it all tag instead of various small specific tags which may or may not get any usage.
