Topic: Computer is suddenly telling me that e621 is unsafe.

  • What is the exact message? A copy of the text or a screenshot would be very helpful to narrow down the cause.
  • What security-related software do you have installed? Are you able to figure out what program is telling you this?
  • What OS/browser are you using? (Internet Explorer has been known to give unhelpful messages with certain security settings)
  • Did this happen on a particular page, such as on a post with a flash animation?
  • Do you happen to have an adblocking program installed? (Though unlikely, this may help narrow down whether it might be related to an ad in the rotation)

Turns out some older security certificates were accidentally sent out within the last hour or so while working on the servers, and is likely causing that message. We're already in the process of re-issuing new certificates, so you might see some site hiccups while they get swapped out, but it should be fixed within the hour.

That explains it, thank you. My phone was saying that my connection to this site was not private.

Yes, because us porn viewers want to hack your phone for your precious pr0nz.

I wasn't saying I felt unsafe, I just found it weird out of every single visit here, it told me it was unsafe for the first time.

I am still getting the message on Chrome.. I am on Firefox right now. It was working fine for me yesterday.. "ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH"

The issue actually relates to Cloudflare, the service that manages traffic and caching for the site. Which version of the certificate you see may vary depending on which Cloudflare node you happen to be connected to and what they have already cached. I know we've already sent a support ticket to them about this but there must be a few nodes that haven't picked up on the new certificate yet. It should automatically fix itself eventually, but just in case I'll forward what you've reported to our server guy.

If you're curious, you can actually see what Cloudflare server you are connected to by visiting https://e621.net/cdn-cgi/trace. The colo=XXX line corresponds to the 3 letter code found on this page. Usually it will be whatever server happens to be closest to you geographically, but it may not be.

The "/cdn-cgi/trace" page isn't actually specific to us, you can see it on any website that uses Cloudflare. For instance, FurAffinity and reddit both use Cloudflare.

Lol! I Better not give away my 3 Letter code then.. It will give away my location. It's colo=ORD. In other words.. the Chicago Server Sucks..
