Isn't girly just for male characters?

Mostly. Tagging girly on female characters is pretty durned redundant.

Even moreso when tagged as girly_girl.

Perhaps this one should be invalidated as well?

(unless you are suggesting girly_girl and manly_man tags for their respective sexes?)

That'd work. Better than aliasing them to invalid_tag.

I've said it a few times across forum threads, but the feminine/masculine_male/female tags I suggested are looking nicer every time this discussion arises.

So counter proposal: Alias girly_girl to feminine_female and girly to feminine_male. Since manly is primarily manly men for some reason, alias that and manly_man to masculine_male. If there are any butch females in the manly tag, they can be changed over to a masculine_female tag. Maybe muscular_female can imply masculine_female or at least be organized so that any in the muscular female tag that apply to masculine females get put into the tag correctly.

Or, just a thought:

manly for manly men
girly for girly men
butch for manly women
femme for girly women

...Yeah, I just don't like the sound of "masculine men". Doesn't seem manly enough.

Not everyone knows what those terms are or what they mean/intend to mean (manly was originally supposed to be for masculine females) so it's a flawed system. In this thread, for example, "girly" is being used to describe both female and male subjects. Being as blunt and descriptive with the tags as possible, with masculine/feminine_male/female is the best choice, in my opinion. There's no confusing their purpose when they're written in that form.

tl;dr: Me complaining about how this would make manly men seem less manly.

Bumping this one, as it pretty much stalled out with little progress; there are some good ideas here that could use another look.

I will note there once was a feminine_male tag which ended up aliased to girly.

Considering the (inadvertent) abuse of tagging both males as manly, and females as girly, it might be worth bringing feminine_male back, along with creating masculine_female.

Or: my out of style, is coming back.

A cleanup of male manly -female -ambiguous_gender (which looks like it would suck), as well as female girly -male -ambiguous_gender (which looks less sucky) might be needed, and could be followed by aliases of manly -> manly_(disambiguation) and girly -> girly_(disambiguation) to pave the way for the updated tags.

In the end, aliases of girly -> feminine_male and manly -> masculine_female might curb the worst of the offences, at least for those who check their tags after an upload ...

EDIT

I think girly_girl still needs to go, unless we complete the extra level of tagging with the addition of manly_man to represent respective sexes; my brain is beginning to equate those (2) tags with 'hyper_(insert_gender_here)' ...

Seems worth a try, at least. The current ones are mistagged so often that it's not worthwhile to try to keep those clean.

Denied. I cleaned this one up manually instead since it was mostly tagged by one person (and only a few times).

One issue is girly tends to get tagged for cuntboy and ambiguous_gender just as much as male, so as of right now aliasing it to a *_male tag is kind of tricky. At any rate I've deleted the feminine_male alias in forum #165805, so feel free to pick that up if anyone wants a tagging project to do, otherwise I'm leaving it open ended for now.
