Topic: Kirby Species Tag

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Could there be a tag added for Kirby's species, like kirby_(species)? It's not too much of a concern to me. Just making a suggestion. It's just alien is kind of inaccurate for Kirby.

I feel as though it would be a bit redundant. Kirby the name and Kirby the species are one and the same.

Alien does seem the best fit if you asked me. Of course, I've only played a couple of Kirby games and this is just me throwing my two cents at a possible option.

I don't think "pink_ball" would be a good species.
But I can see where the issue would come from, there are multiple characters with kirby's species (like Meta Knight) so having something to lump them together might be beneficial.

Sadly, Nintendo doesn't help us at all because they never released a name for Kirby's species.

I vote we call it pink_puff.

"Pink puff" is more a description than the name of his species. kirby_(species) is also much more indicative of what the tag is supposed to represent.

I agree that it's more logical, but it also sounds sillier to me.

Yep, but the other Kirbys aren't pink (there's yellow, red, green, blue, brown, grey...), so pink_puff wouldn't work.

How about puffball? That's kind of a fan name for the species, but since there's no official one..

That works for me! I was trying to think up an alternative to "pink" but for some reason my mind couldn't advance beyond "Puff," which would be a lousy tag.

"Puffball" suffers from the same issues that "pink_puff" does. It's largely non-indicative of what you want the tag to represent, and it opens up the possibility of any small, round, puffy thing getting mis-tagged.

Looks like this discussion got stuck in an impasse. Like so many others. Ah well.

I've been thinking... Maybe we should have a species tag for small, round otherwise indefinable creatures. Because there's a lot of them, and they don't really fit in any current category.

Creatures and species such as Kirby, Jigglypuff, Starlow, ...Pac-man? We don't have any species category tag for those, except maybe monster, which tends to get used for anything that doesn't fit elsewhere. TVTropes calls those Waddling Heads, which sounds kind of odd but might work as a species tag...?

And by the way, does Kirby count as furry or not_furry? What do you all suppose?

Starlow is actually a star_sprite. There are also Star_spirits who are basically stars with faces, mostly showing up in the Paper world, and then the Luma in Galaxy.

Yes, but I meant as a generic category. Like anthro, feral, humanoid, living_machine, etc.

Okay, yeah, that would work.

I have no idea if it will catch on, but it's worth a try. +1

So what's the consensus for Kirby being tagged with the alien tag ? I noticed it being used on Kirby (Mainly from one user) and it buggers the hell out of me because Kirby has nothing to do with aliens at all, no matter if the anime treats him like an alien or not (Then by the way, should we tag Clefairy as an alien too since they came from space, canonically ?) But my main reason why I don't want Kirby having the alien tag is because the tag is used for aliens from our perspective, and Kirby has no characteristics from an alien at all beside being a fictional character, but then everything fictional should get this tag and it would be pretty much stupid to do so

The alien tag is hard to define, but I'm inclined to agree: Kirby doesn't look like an alien.

Kirby doesn't fit into any of the existing species categories, so I suppose that's why some users tag him (it?) as an alien or monster.

We could give that waddling_head species category a try, and see how it works out. Though it's such a weird name that I kind of doubt that it would catch on.

that waddling_head species category

I like it.

Also, I would consider Kirby to be in the not_furry category: no fur, no animalistic traits in their standard form. I guess you could consider it to be anthro, as much as you can anthropomorphize a pink sphere...

Those would be just humanoid. And since it's an alternate form, they should also be tagged as humanoidized.

Is anthrofied enough? Or should this be kept separate?

The third I suppose would be humanoidized, but what about those first two? Those look more like anthro waddling heads to me.

We should have a species tag dedicated to their species--Perhaps we should just count the two as being Waddle Dees?

Would that tag work for the paper-world star sprites, too? Such as Twink_(mario)?
