aliasing to sticking_plaster

Why to sticking_plaster? I don't think I've even ever heard anybody call them that.

All should be aliased to adhesive_bandage as band-aid is a brand name.

So is velcro but we still call it velcro 99% of the time. Remember we want the most common terms too as that is what people expect to see and search for

band aid used to be aliased to the weird term known as sticking_plaster, so it was a joke from years ago

sticking plaster is British, isn't it? As for the former point- adhesive bandage is the most common term, if you look at available products. :) But that's why I said to alias band-aid to adhesive_bandage. Velcro is a brand name trademark, yeah, for the hook-and-loop fastener, so it should go the way of the dodo too and be aliased to the non-trademark.

Band-Aid is a trademark? I feel bad now, especially as I always get irritated at people using trademarks like Jello and Frisbee.

For aliasing, I prefer adhesive_bandage over sticking_plaster but I don't really mind either way.

Some things are just going to be tagged by brand name as the brand name is the most recognizable term, regardless of the actual term for it. Like we tag legos and not building blocks, frisbee and not flying_disc_toy, velcro and not hook_and_loop_fastener, etc

and sticking plaster was a joke, it is already aliased to band aid

I know it's aliased to band-aid. :P I'm just saying that I'm pretty sure it's British in origin.

I made my argument against brand name/trademarks being used generically. *shrug* If we aren't removing them they should at least be put into the copyright type of tag due to their trademark status.

So what should be done with plaster, if anything?

I was going through patch and saw quite a few bandages tagged with patch and/or plaster (patch I just replaced, but I left the plasters alone). In fact it seems plaster is only used for bandages, not the cement-like paste stuff. So I added band-aid for the typical adhesive rectangular-with-a-bump-in-the-center type and bandage for things that didn't appear adhesive (taped on/wrapped around). I realize this is an ad hoc and American-centric categorization, but none of these tags have wiki pages.

So, yeah, sorry if I should have made a new thread instead, but this one's relevant, if old.
