Requested feature overview description.

Not automatically having Questionable set as the rating upon upload, but rather just leave all 3 options blank by default and have some sort of error pop up upon trying to upload the file without having selected a rating.

Why would it be useful?

New users are often unaware about the rating system and upload all their files on the Questionable rating, leading to inaccurate ratings as well as records.
Experienced users might also forget about setting a proper rating sometimes.

What part(s) of the site page(s) are affected?

Upload page.

Im fine with that.

Even furaffinity did that and that says something when were behind on a feature compared to FA.

It's more of a roadblock than a feature. The default Questionable rating is basically perfect. e926 doesn't see the uploaded image, and it is thrown in the gray area category. This change could be a good thing... or it could cause new uploaders to pick the wrong category since they are forced to pick one.

How about a fourth rating, unrated, as the default?

Perhaps an error message saying "Please pick the correct rating" and give an extra message (I don't know if there's a name for those bars with an X that you can click away) informing the uploader about the 3 ratings.

The upload page has clear instructions for Explicit rating on the upload page.

FA has all three listed and we do have a link to the ratings help page which lists
Explicit
Any image where the pussy, penis, anus, or other genitalia (sheath, cloaca, etc.) are exposed. This also includes depictions of sex, masturbation, and gore.

Safe
Safe posts are images that you would not feel guilty looking at openly in public. Pictures of nudes, exposed nipples or pubic hair, cameltoe, or any sort of sexually suggestive pose are NOT safe and belong in questionable. Swimsuits and lingerie are borderline cases; some are safe, some are questionable.

Questionable
Basically anything that isn't safe or explicit. This is the great middle area, and since it includes unrated posts, you shouldn't really expect anything one way or the other when browsing questionable posts.

Putting those on the upload page too would cover any confusion guaranteed.

Also people already incorrectly tag things as questionable or safe as it is. Forcing people to actually think before they upload might actually help with that.

"Questionable " is already that. It's "I don't know, correct me!" kind of thing. Though there is a thought that it also nominates pictures where stuff is borderline, but not explicit. :P

That picture.. exactly "I don't know" area.. Topless female? Flat-chested female? Cross-dressing male? We don't know. And we don't see anything, really. It's either safe or questionable.

Its easy enough for someone to just click Questionable. Promoting further laziness with the rest of the uploads doesn't really help ;/

This would help stop proper Q posts from being mixed up with posts from new users who simply arnt aware of a rating system on this site, but this is likly to flood quickly to a size that is simply a waste of time trying to sort thru. Better would be for new users to be informed of the rating system in the first place so such flooding doesnt even arise, as such a error messages would certainly be the better thing.
