I agree, I tagged a few posts with dire_wolf but only because the FA page said so.

Actually, direwolves have a very violent appearance to them:

Most of the images tagged are just regular wolves in appearance though, yeah.

From left to right, we have a Wolf, a Direwolf, a Werewolf, and two humans. More than just the size, the very coat of a direwolf gives off the fieling of danger and violence. Compare to something like this, a picture of a real life wolf that's angry, and notice how beautiful the coat still is.
The exact differences between a normal wolf and a direwolf can vary from canon to canon, but if they don't have some additional fierce look, be it mystical markings, a rough mane, or even a 'Spine' tuft, then they shoulnd't be tagged as dire.

imho there is not enough differences beteween dire wolf and wolf for two separate tags. its just wolf but a bit bigger and angrier.

Sure, they've been featured in some fantasy games in various forms. But those are all based on the actual direwolf, which is an extinct species of wolf. Here's what they looked like: http://savepic.ru/2173302.jpg. Almost indistinguishable from grey wolves.
'course, just like with dinosaurs, we don't know exactly what they looked like.
Canon-specific direwolves can be tagged as direwolf_(<setting>).

Problem would be recognizing what the setting is, and a lot of settings probably use the same form.

We can always decide later if it is proving to be a problem, but I've approved the alias and implicated it to wolf for the meantime.
