Topic: The turntable tag

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Currently this tag is being used for both:

animated 3d model displays:

and for DJ equipment:

Which definitions should we use to separate them?

I was thinking of using something along the lines of either:

turntable and turntable_(model)
or
turntable and turntable_(dj)

Any thoughts?

So I'm not sure if there's enough left to warrant splitting the tag. Hard to say, there's so many flashes to check.

Edit: Never mind. Looks like there's a lot of them. So yeah, I guess it'll have to be split in some way.

Well it seems that using turntables to make music is actually called turntablism but I'm thinking that maybe that's a bit too obscure to be valid as a tag.

I'm thinking that Mutisija has the right idea, changing the tag for the model display posts to turntable_(animation) and using the basic turntable tag for turntablism posts is probably the best choice.

All done, I've gone through every one of these posts I could find and separated them.
We now have a turntable tag, a turntable_(animation) tag, and a wiki page for each of them.

imo it would be better to give a separate tag for the turntable as in music device and give disambiguation page for turntable tag because people will keep tagging turntable animations as turntable and never realize their mistakes

What about railway turntables?

None of the posts tagged with turntable had any (If they did it'd probably have a tag like railway_turntable or something like that).

Well, now they've been sepatated, editing them all will be a lot easier to do with tag scripting if needed and it wouldn't take long to update the wikis.

What did you have in mind? At first I thought about using decks instead but that term is specifically for the dj set-up so couldn't be used for record players, etc so I stuck with turntable for now.

Okay I've had a good think about this, how about something like this:

turntable_(disambiguation)

This tag could mean several things and should be removed and replaced with one of the following:

turntable_(decks) - A set of two phonographs combined with a crossfader mixer which is used for dj-ing.
turntable_(record_player) - Any type of phonograph used solely for playing vinyl records.
turntable_(animation) - Displaying 3d models in a rotating view.

turntable_(decks)

This tag is used when a post contains a set of two phonographs combined with a crossfader mixer which is used for dj-ing (turntablism).

See also:

turntable_(record_player)

Any type of phonograph used solely for playing vinyl records.

Examples:

See also:

turntable_(animation)

This tag is used when a 3d model is displayed using an animated view which rotates around the subject.

If the post can be controlled (using the mouse, arrow keys, on-screen buttons, etc) also add the interactive tag.
