That's a bit more than one, don't you think?

3 flash games and a board game...all of them League of Legends themed. No, it's still just one. Do you know anything about League or are u just copy-pasting from Wikipedia and just hoping one of those games isn't part of League?

Same world =/= same game, or do you consider every Mario game ever made to be the same game as well?

Before this argument goes too much further, I agree with your original point. If a company tag only covers one franchise, there's no need to use it.

They are all offshoots of League...there's nothing unique about them enough to tag them as their own properties. None of them are even tagged on the site btw...why are we even discussing this? Other than you trying to give yourself a reason to disagree.

Also...if they were to get tagged their "tag group" so to speak would be under league_of_legends...the riot_games tag would still be unnecessary.

And as far as your Mario example...many Mario games are aliased to just mario_bros so for the purposes of tagging...yeah...all these games would probably just be aliased to league_of_legends.

Blizzard only made one game

Well that's not true. But since Overwatch came out it seems they forgot the others

Even if they only have one franchise at the moment that doesn't mean it will stay that way.

That is true ofc, but in the event that happens we could simply mass-add riot_games back onto the league_of_legends tag (I'm sure someone around here has that power). But such an occurrence is unlikely...when your game is literally the most-played in the world there's not exactly a lot of incentive to branch out to a new IP.

Tags are not precious, we can have as many as we want.

So why remove a valid one if it fits, and we add the dev to all games on here

I see no reason not to keep the tag on the off chance that Riot Games introduces another IP. We can weigh probabilities all we want but we're still not psychic.

Tagging games by developer is problematic because franchise and developer tend to overlap, but aren't identical.

For instance, there's plenty of Mario games that have been made by other companies, but published by Nintendo.

Same for other franchises. Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon was made by Spike Chunsoft (which is part of Dwango), published by The Pokémon Company (which is owned by Nintendo and Game Freak), and distributed by Nintendo. It's currently only tagged as Nintendo.

Trying to tag all developers would quickly result in a tangled web of implications that'd have to be revised every time there's a merger or a game gets remade by some other dev.

That's because regardless of who develops the games, both the Mario and Pokémon IPs are owned by Nintendo. We're tagging the owner, not the developer.

Tagging the owner isn't 100% safe, either. What if the ownership of a franchise changes hands at some point? Do we change the tags over to the new owner, only tag the new one on the newer content or keep using the old owner?

Depends on the franchise. Might be a good idea to keep both. For instance, the Deus Ex franchise. Do we tag Ion Storm or Square Enix? Since they're different enough you can easily figure it out, but then there's something like Fallout. Interplay or Bethesda? Some games were both. Could have to use both. Might be some where it's obvious though. Like if Myron is in the picture, it's before the end of Fallout 2, so you can just have Interplay.

I was under the impression that we were going to try to depreciate copyright tags in most cases because they tend to not be useful for searching.

The thing to me is that fixing this one way or another is pretty simple. Alias riot_games to league_of_legends for a moment, and you've gotten rid of that tag on all images. If they ever make a game in the future that necessitates them having a copyright tag, imply league_of_legends to riot_games, and it's back.
