Topic: Tag Implication/Alias Approved?

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

I'm wondering on how tag aliases or implications get approved by admins and get changed.

Is it only when admins or mods agree on a tag suggestions, it actually gets approved? Or is it automatic in the system?

And if some tag suggestions were to be ignored, it doesn't get to be approved?

Admins need to approve each manually. You can see the currently pending ones by clicking Tags (upper bar) -> Aliases / Implications. There's currently hundreds, I guess nobody's had time to handle those in a while.

Generally, if there's no debate, it can be assumed that nobody objects -- so those get approved faster.

And some get stuck in limbo for months, especially if it's a long debate where neither side budges.

I suspect that real reason why they are stuck is because whole alias/implication system is broken and hasn't been fixed yet.

Thats why I dont touch em. That and the hassle of tracking down the conversations in the forums.

Is there any way we, as users, could make it easier on you?

Ignore the problem!

...or FIX it!

Tony and/or Spight added an automatic link to the conversation in the forums now, so no need to track it down (at least on the newer aliases and implications). That way it's all right there. Of course, if processing aliases/implications is broken, then yeah that's all moot. But there is that.

This is the first I've heard that this system is broken in some way. What's up?

Certainly not the alias/implication system.

It was broken in 2013 and it seems that it's still broken despite Tony said that they moved alias and implication approval to a new job system which should be faster and more reliable than before
Apparently either it didn't work, or "faster and more reliable" is still not "fast and reliable". There are 6 month implications with pending status.

If I remember correctly (It's hard to find anything with current forum search options) it had something to do with deadlocks in the job tasks responsible for doing implications/aliases.

From what I've heard, those only get stuck after the alias or implication has been approved. For instance, the reversal of back_turned <-> rear_view alias didn't go through: none of the posts tagged as back_turned got moved over to the new main tag.

All stuck implications were manually reset a couple of weeks ago (see https://e621.net/forum/show/139554), but new ones still have the same problem, so it looks like the problem wasn't fixed yet.

As far as I know, aliases and implications that show up orange on the master list haven't even got that far. Those are still waiting to be approved (or denied). That includes some months old suggestions. Some are still under debate with no clear consensus, such as voyuer -> being_watched. That's what I meant by "being stuck in limbo": when it's not clear whether the suggestion should be approved or denied, the admins can't do much about it.
