Topic: $599 USD for Giant Enemy Crabs

Posted under Off Topic

So, Sony is going to announce their new console soon.

I sure hope it comes with a feature 'inspired' by Nintendo and poorly implemented last minute and gets shoe horned into a flag ship launch title and ends up crumpling it like Lt. Dan.

I also hope it's ugly as sin and looks like a kitchen appliance; I'm rooting for a microwave! Man, I can't wait to see what features this console with come with! I sure hope it strips them slowly! I can't wait!

I wonder how many years it'll take before consoles are $1000? I'm thinking 15.

Oh please, in 2022 you Have to preorder auxillary consoles and wait for DLCs if you want to play a game made by any non-sony-owned company.

It costs $50,000 to play this game console....for twelve seconds.

It's not likely, systems are a very odd market.
They subsidize the system sales with game sales, a PS3 when it was first out should have cost over $1000 based on the cost to manufacture.
But, since the average system owner tends to buy games(duh) and the profit margin on games is really high, they make up the difference in cost by selling games.

This isn't likely to change any time soon, so system cost is mostly a function of what the market will bear.
For example, the Nintendo 3DS, original price $250.
No one bought it because a $250 handheld system was more than people wanted to spend.
So, they dropped the price to $170 around 6 months later.

Manufacturers are scared of jacking the prices too much for that reason, the 3ds still hasn't fully recovered from the initial sales flop.

But they are planning to sell more digital games than CDs so that people can't trade them in to get money back. That'll probably cover system costs.

Yep, and on top of the lack of trade ins, it's an even better profit margin since there's no packaging costs, shipping costs, or retailers taking a cut.

I prefer PC for a lot of games, but most RPGs (my favorite genre) aren't available for PC.
I have a fairly killer desktop for gaming, recently got a 256 GB SSD for it.
The access speed is so fast compared to an HDD, saves and loads go super fast, not to mention Windows 7 boots in under 30 seconds from shutdown PC.
Still have a 2 TB HDD in it too for storage space since 256 GB in today's world is next to nothing.

I'm always downloading shit to my 500 GB portable HD. I've only used 99GB of my C drive. But on my next laptop, I will get a solid state drive.

Best to have you OS on an SSD along with your most common apps for quick load up.

Sad indeed.
You know you can upgrade pretty much all of that for under $100 each right?
Not XP, but XP is just fine, I only have windows 7 because a friend at work had a license for it that he gave me for free(perfectly legal, he'd paid for it).

yep, I know. Though, this is not my main one :)

Still, I'd like to upgrade it, this thing hangs more than a monkey. At least more RAM, HDD and/or CPU. Originally had 128MB but my brother gave me two 256's that he wasn't using.

Heck, it's from 2002, what else I can do to this? Besides turning it into an Arcade Machine, ATM or use it as a personal server. idea! *googles RoR *

You know what's awesome about this?
The EU-Court ruled that it is fully legal and the right of everyone to resell software licenses even "used" ones.
I'm just waiting for these people to start suing steam and other companies to include that in their shops and resellpoints.

Next gen of consoles looks like shit, and they won't even catch up to modern PC's in raw power capability. Probably going to be the first generation of consoles I actually skip.
