Topic: Ribbons vs bow

So, there are these two tags around: ribbons and bow. They are very similar and I am often unsure whether I should use one or the other. The Wiki's also don't contribute much to the question.

Who can explain to me what the key difference between these is? Or is this something in need of further investigation?

Ribbon is a type of material. You can have ribbon without it being tied into a bow.

Likewise you can have a bow without it being made out of ribbon.

I don't have a pic handy, but think he toony "tied a character into a bow" trope. It could also technically be made out of rope or shoelaces or the like.

The problem I can see with bow is it being confused with the weapon instead of the clothing fabric.
