Anal/vaginal_insertion has an implication for anal_penetration, but the _fingering and _fisting tags do not. And I honestly don't understand why they don't. IMO it seems clear that either all three tags or none of them should imply down to anal_penetration.

BTW, since the wiki seems to imply that only penises and tentacles are allowed to do penetration, and only inanimate objects can be inserted, it's really not clear looking at these wiki pages where tail_sex is supposed to fall.

Good question. Firstly, for tail_sex I'd have a look at forum #156628. Essentially it used to be the tag used for when a tail is penetrating something ("tail penetration") but that meaning got kind of mixed in with when something is penetrating a hole on the tail (e.g, tail_pussy). I'm remembering right it also used to actually imply penetration, which didn't help much. It's still kind of stuck in limbo at the moment as I haven't had time to go over them yet, but hopefully that puts it into a bit more context.

As for penetration/insertion/etc. this is how the tags are intended to work:

• *_penetration - Penises, tentacles, sex toys, whole people
• *_insertion - Same as penetration, but no penises
• *_fingering/fisting - Fingers and fists respectively

However, there's a couple problems that I've seen from this:

• fingering/fisting sometimes get tagged with penetration/insertion, or it gets tagged with penetration/insertion instead of fingering/fisting
• *_insertion is supposed to be for non-penises...but it is widely undertagged and not very reliable because of it
• Users find the difference between penetration and insertion confusing, and because of this the tagging of *_insertion has diminished over time. For instance triple_penetration is much more widely tagged than what we might assume is the obvious dildo/tentacle equivalent, triple_insertion (which would have a couple hundred posts at least).

My thoughts:

• Depreciate the insertion tags in favor of the penetration tags.
• Leave fingering/fisting implications off of penetration. They are still mistagged, but not enough to justify saturating the penetration tags.
• I'm still not sure what to do with tails, but we should probably focus on when a tail is penetrating something, since that appears to be the most common.

Just wanted to chime in and say +1 to this since, judging by the definitions you gave above, I could just search "*_penetration -penis" and find the same (if not more than since it's undertagged) as *_insertion.

(Also tail_penetration as a tag just sounds... weird. tail_insertion sounds a bit better in that regard, personally.)

Yeah, the insertion tags have become less and less useful after the addition of more specific tags. Such as toying_self, etc. So maybe we could just alias those *_insertion tags away?

A very long time ago, I remember seeing penetration/insertion being completely messed up after some "updates" on tags aliases.

Before, it was very simple : Penetration is when anything is penetrating, while Insertion is for anything else but a deek, like a toy or a tail. So vaginal_penetration would have this and penetration for tags when a deek is on the scene, while vaginal_insertion would have this and insertion, plus vaginal_penetration. But since a while now, it seems they've got reversed
