I was wondering why we have invalid_color and invalid_background tags as well as the invalid_tag.
I think it would make cleaning up the invalid tags easier if they were all aliased to the same tag (invalid_tag).
Is there a specific reason why they are kept separate?

Guessing it is for teaching/learning purposes.
A user who keeps getting invalid_color will eventually learn that he/she is tagging wrong. Or maybe it's so that if the user keeps adding tags which are aliased to invalid_color, other users can bring it up with said user, and teach him what he is doing wrong.

I think it's so that people fixing it (removing the invalid tag type and looking to see if there's any obvious tags it should have but is missing) have a basic tag category to focus on. If I'm removing a bunch of invalid_background, then I know to check if the background has any valid tags that need to be added. If I'm removing invalid_color then I know to quickly check if some of the main colored stuff in the image needs valid tagging. Invalid_tag is so broad that it doesn't always help. But if there's a sudden flood of invalid_tag, then I can check the alias page for what was recently aliased, and that can help me know if a lot of them might be missing a certain type of tag. So I think that's mostly why, it's a helpful clue sometimes about what might be missing on the image's tags/what went wrong/etc. So also some of what Peekaboo said too. It's just helpful in multiple ways.
