Some may have noticed, it looks like "keyhole_turtlenecks" are going to be a bit of a craze in the furry fandom this Winter season, perhaps even longer.

Now, I had no idea what they were actually called until I hit e621 and searched 'sweater'. Before that, I guess I had seen "boob window" sweater around a place or two.

I'm not looking to argue about calling things what they are. If some designer - knit-wear for nursing mothers? - came up with them and either named then keyhole-turtlenecks or it simply came to be the name of the design in the fashion world, so be it.

However, before I knew what to properly call them, the term "peekaboob" sweater seemed to me to make the most sense. Obvious and corny I do suppose, but I hereby move that within the furry fandom at least - let them stick with the official designation in Anime/Hentai - this type of sweater(w/ or w/o a turtleneck collar) should be called the Peekaboob!

Regardless, here: https://e621.net/wiki/add?title=keyhole_turtleneck Someone please make it Official before I start re-tagging with Peekaboob. I-I'm not sure I will be able to stop myself, otherwise...

Don't think anything would be gained by swapping the keyhole_turtleneck tag with a tag that you, and you alone, will use.

I'm going to ignore the replacing tags at the moment and look at it as a tag in and of itself.

  • Is the name of this tag descriptive enough that people know what it is based on that alone? For this I'd say maybe. I could also see it being mistaken for other things like exposed boobs; I think a name like peekaboob_turtleneck might help a bit, but I'm not convinced it's any better than keyhole_turtleneck.
  • Is the name of this tag likely to get mistagged because it sounds broader than it is? I think so. As you've suggested it, I could see it being tagged as any exposed boobs at all.
  • Is the name of the likely to get misspelled? I would say no. Nothing that an alias or two wouldn't fix anyways.
  • Does this tag replace usage of another, already established tag? Yes. Seeing as it has nearly 100 posts and there is an alias to it already (boob_window), I would say it's already established and approved for use.
    • Are you replacing this tag to reduce confusion of it's usage? No. In fact, confusion is likely to increase.

From this I wouldn't agree with using it as a tag. If there was no name for it I'd say this might be cute enough to consider, but it's still better to go for gender-neutral terms when possible to reduce confusion later down the road.

It does look like the wiki needs to be made, so I will look into that and see what i can come up with.

Edit: It looks like the name is actually established elsewhere as keyhole turtleneck, I wasn't actually aware of this. http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/keyhole-turtleneck

Can we alias keyhole_turtleneck to Open-Chest_Turtleneck or Open-Chest sweater, or the other way around since those terms seem to be more common? And things that aren't turtlenecks or even sweaters are being tagged, such as Bayonetta and Power Girl's outfit: post #550715 post #257802

I'm not sure, the keyhole turtleneck seems to be a pretty specific design (overlapping fabric on the sides as opposed to just a cut out hole). It may almost be worth implicating it to something, but I'm not sure how much these keyhole sweaters are going to pop up in the next month/year/etc. so I'm not 100% on that.

For the moment, I don't think there's much to lose if we let them pile up under the same tag, if only to wait and see what we end up with first before making a final decision. I've already written the wiki to lump them both into the same tag (as far as I know we have no other tag for this anyways), but I can change it if you think it might be better.

Well technically, there's a much older and much broader (not just for sweaters) clothing tag called cleavage_cutout. Because it's technically what it is, and as a clothing design it can be found in everything from sweaters to bodysuits to dresses to even male clothing sometimes. But until this meme, it was just a small tag that only sometimes was needed. And it sounds exactly like the sort of tag you both are looking for to implicate these keyhole_turtleneck sweaters to. Since it's a meme, it makes sense to leave the sweaters in their own tag. But an implication to of keyhole_turtleneck to --> cleavage_cutout sounds like a good idea. Since these sweaters are just one ultra-specific kind of clothing that has a cleavage_cutout.

And yes, we can definitely alias open_chest_turtleneck and open-chest_sweater to --> keyhole_turtleneck since those two seem to be getting used.
