Topic: [Feature] Alias Alerts

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

[Issue]
Sometimes, I'll go into the search bar and search up a certain term, only to find much later that it had either been invalidated or aliased to a different tag. It's rather annoying, and I haven't been able to find/create an external tool that I could just jerry-rig into the page via Greasemonkey.

[Proposal]
I would like to propose a tool that will open a small message under the site news banner that tells users/visitors that the term(s) they looked for are no longer in use, and if the term was aliased, what it was aliased to.

You can still search with a tag that has been aliased.

Example: https://e621.net/post/index/1/f

I know, but knowing the fact that the tag was aliased is much more convienient, and pulls most users out of the dark. Some visitors from the various Rule34 websites are probably searching for hot gay sex and not knowing that hot was invalidated due to being subjective. It's a learning experience, and helps e621 users learn the logistics behind proper tagging.

I could see something similar to the "maybe you meant" feature (ex. cheer). A small section above the results with a message like the following might work.

Tags have been aliased. Searching instead for: aliased search.

My only concern is, it might be intrusive to anyone that already knows about tag aliases. I use short aliases to search, instead of typing the full tag (ex. gay -> male/male).

I actually like that idea, and I don't see it being too intrusive. Maybe you could include an option to disable alias alerts in your settings menu.
