Topic: invalid_tag cleaning discussion

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

When I look at posts containing invalid_tag, I fully expect to add or correct other tags in addition to removing invalid_tag.

Of course, not everyone does this. I have no way of knowing if this is a widespread issue or not, but sometimes, after the occasional night of tagging, in the morning I'll refresh my page and see that there are no longer any posts with invalid_tag. However, when I refresh an image that contained invalid_tag the night before, I check its tag history and see that a user only removed the tag and did nothing else, even though there were signs that tags were missing.

To be clear, I only wish to discuss those who check posts with the sole intent of removing invalid_tag.

I believe this is a problem. Invalid_tag is much more useful to us if we use it to identify underlying problems with tagging. Simply removing it also removes the opportunity to critically look at these posts.

In an effort to change how invalid_tag is handled, I think updating the wiki would help.

What do you think? Should try anything else? If I'm not being clear on something, let me know - I'll try to explain my position on this a bit more.

I think there should be different types of invalid tags, like having the check_tag_type tag. Tags that should not exist at all, for example, because they're subjective, can be aliased to one, and tags that just need clean-up can be aliased to another.

If you look at translation_request there's probably like hundreds of images that have been translated but still contain the tag. Same thing I guess

I'm actually kind of surprised we don't have a hasnotes:true...

I'm surprised we don't have the multipart alias/implication arguments (penis frot -pussy -breasts -i-> male/male) and the use of metatags in aliases/implications (clean_art -a-> rating:safe).

redux

was thinking we could work on Shylok's idea and add multiple invalid_tag types, except we swap them out, like

and whatever else we can think of.

this way we can search using the *_invalid suffix and know EXACTLY what is/was missing.

That's another idea. I still like the idea of an invalid: tag type that auto-cleans itself after a while, but who knows what that'll take to actually implement.
