Implicating yoshi → yoshi's_island
Link to implication

Reason:

Essentially any character that originated from Yoshi's Island or is a common character in the series, like the various types of Shy Guys, the Star Children(Baby Mario, Lugi, Peach, Donkey Kong, Bowser, Wario, and Yoshi), etc.Seperating Yoshi's home franchise from the overly large Super Mario Bros. franchise makes a decent amount of sense for searching.

Yoshi first appeared in Super Mario World. Plus, Baby Mario and Baby Luigi appear in Partners in Time along with Baby Bowser.

I know what game Yoshi debuted in. However, Yoshi's Island is a seperate series in the Super Mario Bros. franchise. It doesn't really matter what game it is, as Yoshi still represents the Yoshi's Island series. Baby Mario and Baby Luigi appearing in M&L:PiT is somewhat irrelevant, because they debuted in Yoshi's Island, and I'm pretty sure they've been in every Yoshi's Island game.

I agree with Lativee, -1.

Yoshi does not represent Yoshi's Island, he represents Super Mario Bros. Yoshi's Island should be used for objects that are specifically from the game, or are in the style of it.

The babies, likewise, shouldn't imply the game; it's best to keep them to the general Super Mario Bros tag.

Denied. They are neither exclusive to nor were debuted in that series, and it doesn't make much sense to imply them to a relatively niche tag. At this point it's almost harder to find a Mario game without Yoshis in them.

Mostly, the only games with Yoshis in them are New Super Mario Bros. I meant that Yoshi would have the Mario Bros. tag and the Yoshi's Island tag, like how Rosalina has the Mario Bros. tag and the Super Mario Galaxy tag.

The difference is that Rosalina debuted in Super Mario Galaxy. Yoshi was around long before Yoshi's Island.

I'm most likely forgetting some Mario games (and, no, I do not count Super Smash Bros.).

And the Kart series. Yoshi is one of the six characters who have been in every single one.

The current implication seems fine. Mario_bros is kind of a mario_(series) tag, and it wouldn't feel right to imply Yoshi to any specific game.

That's a spinoff racing game, I meant that the only main series Mario games Yoshis are in almost all of the time is New Super Mario Bros. Yoshi is in essentially every Mario sports game (if you include racing as a sport as well)

You're conversely arguing my point. Baby Mario and Luigi have been all 4 Yoshi's Island games, and Baby Bowser has been in 6 of the 13 Yoshi games, and as expected, Yoshi has been in all 13. I'm not saying the current implication isn't good, I just meant that since Yoshi's Island is a separate series, having 13 games with little similarity to the main series Mario games, similar to WarioWare and the Donkey Kong series, and there is a significant enough number of characters to take a large chunk out the overly large Mario franchise, then why can't the separation be recognized.
(If the tag wasn't considered necessary, why does it exist?)

I can't tell you the history of the tag itself, but Member level users can create tags and anyone under the Mod level can alter its type if it has less than 100 posts.

I had more to say, but I realized that I'd just be repeating what I said before. Like I said, you're not prevented from using the tag, so just add it yourself when a post specifically references the series.

Yeah, I've had to do that before, I had to mass-edit the Duck Hunt Dog and Duck Hunt Duck tag, as well as replacing the Badgegrab tag with the Arcade Bunny tag.

There's lots of tags that aren't necessary that exist. The trick is figuring out whether them existing actually matters in terms of searching/blacklisting/tagging projects.
