Topic: The using of SCP_Containment_Breach

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

So sorry for making so many forum topics in such a short time, but I don't think anyone would adress this.

The tag is used way to much to describe posts that have nothing to do with the fan game or feature SCP's that don't appear in the game

SCP_Containment_Breach can probably be aliased to SCP_Foundation (or the reverse) with no problem.

There are several characters that may also be implied to the franchise, but not all of these characters are featured in the SCP games, which is what I'm assuming this thread is meant to address (fanon/original characters).

When it comes to non-game content, my opinion of SCP is that there is a huge issue with fanon vs "canon," with canon being content that goes above and beyond simply being mysterious and creepy. The SCP wiki is fueled by volunteer writers, many of whom won't make the cut for one reason or another. My impression of the wiki is that it is roughly 1% "quality" (in other words, popular - see Cain and 'Able' for examples of overloaded Mary Sues which are inexplicably well-liked by the community) and 99% lower fanfic-tier content, all of which is submitted by people trying to stretch their creative writing muscles.

tl;dr

SCP is a mess. See their canon and top rated pages.

So, rather than try to explain SCP canon/fanon any further, for the sake of our tagging purposes, I'll use an analogy: MLP fan characters.

The most recent discussion states "As long as a post is reasonably MLP-related it's fine for it to get the tag."

To add my own two cents, for searching/blacklisting purposes, I'd rather we tag SCP on fan characters regardless of canon. As long as it contains the foundation symbol, or is a recognized SCP character, tag it. Just be sure to include fan_character if it doesn't appear in-game.

I'd love to hear everyone else's thoughts on this, though.

SCP_Containment_Breach should be aliased to SCP_Foundation because SCP Foundation is the name of the website. SCP Containment Breach is a fan made game containing characters from the SCP lore.
