There seems to be no example of it being used for anything other the verbal dialogue here thru, any film ive seen that feature them also always uses it as dialogue, not actual written text

And @Lativee yes it is cussing, but this specific form of censoring by replacing letters with random symbols as far as could be found is limited to just dialogue.
