Topic: e621 Performance Feedback Thread

Posted under General

Hey folks,

This thread is for the ongoing discussion of e621's performance - how fast it loads, how often it gives a 500 error, and so on. If you have a comment or question on the site's performance, here's the place to post it!

This will also be used by me to ask questions and get feedback. My first one is... Does the site feel noticeably faster today? I have put the images on a seperate machine now, and would like to know if it's improved things at all.

Thanks!

Varka

Images aren't loading at all for me, but the rest of the site is fine. Images are returning 404 error according to web developer tools in my browser.

Edit: This is for 926 only

Updated by anonymous

Site seems pretty fast now, I've only had one error and that was fixed with a quick refresh.

Updated by anonymous

Site is going pretty good for me. No errors so far.

Varka stop taking the site down, I need my porn. STOP IT. ;_;

Funny. I seem to get images on Chrome but when using internet explorer previews are dead and so are images. It just shows all the tags in their place.

But like I said I tried chrome and all previews and images are working. It's a bit odd.

Meh, I use e621 instead of e926 and that is working without flaw.

Hmmm I'm using e621 and that's what's not working. it works on chrome but in internet the previews and images are not working at all.

Updated by anonymous

both e621 and e926 should be working without flaw.

Varka forgot to update the config on e926. I've already gone ahead and got it booted properly.

e926 is now working but I still have the same problem with e621 on internet explorer. the previews and the images show the tags they have and no image.

WAIT... Sorry for being an idiot and posting constantly. some previews are working. full images are not.

All I know is chrome works with it and not internet at this moment.

You have given insufficient information, which internet explorer?
6, 7, 8, 9, or 10 (10 is actually pretty decent)

Also, are you using http://e621.net or https://e621.net
it does make a difference

If it's happening on IE 10 it's you. Clear cache, browsers etc.
If it's 8 or 9, then it's us. Varka forgot to install certificates and subdomains, and forgot to let me have access to that server.

Ah right then. yep I shall do that now then.

thanks.
you know why didn't I do that already? I swear it crossed my mind to try it earlier. But oh well.

Hello. Aurali

NEW THINGY

Ummm I still have the problem. I've deleted and cleared all cache and restarted windows now. Also all the accelerators and what have you have been deleted. (haha I should have done that long ago.)

Unfortunately nothing has worked and internet only still shows the tags in a blank box where the images should be.

I don't understand why chrome didn't suffer this problem with me and just internet? very odd really.

Well I don't know what the problem is then. I did what you told me and I can't seem to get it working.

INTERNETS WHY YOU SO BROKEN???

Sorry I thought it worked for a second. but It seems to still be doing it. XP Stupid thing. I deleted all browsing data. Or I believe I did.

XP is there anything else I can do? or just use google chrome instead of IE?

AAAAAAAH and my uncle the "computer expert" cause he's a programmer and software dev was going on about how much better internet 10 is and how he never has a problem. yet I always have problems with it XP

Don't get me wrong, IE 10 is great compared to older browsers. However, nothing is perfect. I ran IE 10 windows 7, and it's working fine, which means it's on your end. close everything, reboot, clear caches, cookies, accelerators.. ect

also, if you have something new to add, hit the edit button, so we don't have a dozen posts in a row

It works fine on my android tablet... unfortunately I don't have an exact kindle fire to go further with..

maybe you guys should post which images are being broken.

I was sending a PM, around 14:35 my time (British Standard Time). I refreshed the page, that didn't work, so I opened a new tab, then it went away after closing the old one.

naw, just needed to run a cleaner (non lossy) on the favorites table. when you have millions of favorites to deal with, you begin to wonder if it's a good idea showing them

Updated by anonymous

Was the site down a few minutes ago? I was stuck in a 500 while trying to log in :S.

Updated by anonymous

I'm getting redirect ads on e926 about half the time. I click on a tag, image etc and it takes me to one of bogus "YOU NEED TO UPDATE FLASH" screens.

Updated by anonymous

The site is generally very slow for me.
Pretty commonly when I open multiple tabs at once, images don't load. Just the tags are shown. And sometimes, a picture doesn't load completely (lower part is missing). When I refresh with Ctrl+F5 it loads properly.
Examples:
#357352
#357346
#238462
#357371

Also, the blacklist doesn't work for user avatars. I have my_little_pony and friendship_is_magic on my blacklist, yet I see lots of mlp-avatars. Examples:
#189265
#203878
#315469

Edit: Oh and I use Firefox 22.0 and I'm in austria here.

Did you make sure to check the little box under your blacklist that says 'apply blacklist to avatars'? Because that's sort of critical to it working.

Thank you. It wasn't checked. Is this a new box? Because it worked before.
I'd feel really dumb if I accidentally unchecked it :D

e621 no longer serves pictures and thumbnails over https when site itself is accessed through https.
I doubt that on modern hardware TLS can be a bottleneck, it that really intentional?

nope! We are full aware of the issue, just.. the person with ability to get the additional certificates is currently 9000 feet above sea level.

Well, I've tried flushing my DNS and clearing my cache. Yet still not a single image will display, it just displays a small blue box with a question mark in it where the image should be.

Going to echo that. Also seems to be getting possibly worse. Just had one a minute ago that took two page refreshes before it cleared up. The ones I've been having off and on all day haven't been that persistent. Dunno what's going on, obviously just weathering through it. Best of luck on narrowing it down.
