seems i missed out on a rather fun sounding event related to freedom of speech today due to my never using twitter or facebook. youtube is enough social media for me and without it this might have passed me by entirely.

reading an article about it here. it sounds rather fun to me.

looks like twitter tried to do away with the hashtag after a while which i imagine only served to fan the flames.

Twitter is just one, privately run site, and being banned from it is just being banned from it -- that's at their discretion since they are privately run. Deliberately organizing to get people banned across multiple sites might (in a very informal interpretation) be censorship. But generally, you'd have to get the government involved before claims of censorship could hold any real weight.

The event overall seems interesting but prone to getting into .. reacting to SJW's reactiveness. A number of people in the 'best of' list are posting things that can't be backed up and / or are pointlessly offensive.

Though the claims that private censoring somehow violates some 'freedom of speech' are generally bullshit.

Most websites are privately owned; the owners have the right to censor whatever they want on their site. Secondly, freedom of speech doesn't permit hate speech or cyberbullying. And the internet, as a whole, is global anyway. Not bound by US constitution (obviously).

Internet activities that take place on US-hosted servers (i.e. most if not all of them even if their owners are foreign) are subject to United States law, as well as the law of whichever state they reside in.

secondly, it is actually very possible and not completely uncommon that headmates are formed based on a fictional character. when a new headmate is born, it is possible that they take form and personality of something that is familiar and close for the host of system. this something familiar and close might be a fictional character.

I've had on and off diagnosises (diagnosi?) for stuff like that, but it really is a pain when people constantly link videos. I agree that they never seem to be interesting, so I never click them either.

One is "diagnosis" (die-agg-know-sis) - it is the singular version. "The doctor said the test results came back for the woman's young child, whooping cough was the diagnosis."

The other is diagnoses (die-agg-know-seez) - it is the plural version (multiples). "Many people on Tumblr read online material for a bunch of different mental ilnesses and give themselves diagnoses for things they don't actually have. They should maybe go see an actual doctor or a therapist."
